My Transformer collection got me in the newspaper

I don't have many sealed ones. All my anime toys and gobots are in the "theatre room" with my movies and my big ol projector. As for G1...Alot of G1. Reissues and originals, Japanese and American, all over the spectrum

Thats rather neat, I wouldnt say the article paints you wrong. I would say people who dont understand do.

Wow. I am very impressed (however, not with the journalist...I should try and get a job at that paper....geeze.) It's a great hobby and it's widely misunderstood, but who gives a rat's ass -- it makes us all happy :)

And on the comic book guy - I hate those guys. Seriously. They are the kind of jerks that don't collect because it's fun, but because it'll make them some money.

For example - a local comic shop, Dave's Comics in Fayetteville, GA, has been carrying figures for years. Granted he gets in a lot of his own stuff via orders to vendors but I saw the most atrocious thing the other day. Mind you that I had just left ToysRUs, surprised by the lack of GIJoe exclusive special packs only to be greeted by the horror of GREED at Dave's. Sitting on his shelves were almost EVERY Special Pack of GIJoes that TRU carries with a $10+ price hike. That's garbage. Seriously.

I understand that figures and comics are a living, but you shouldn't Transufomah! the community every chance you get. It's wrong and bad business. Not to mention, I didn't bother to buy anything because I was too disgusted to even remotely want to purchase anything from the store - I saw a lot of stuff I wanted too.

Second Comic Book guy story (thanks to Bodycount) - BC walked into a comic shop and asked if they had any transformers. He was pointed to a box that had G1 Junker parts and pieces in it. When he asked if they carried any of the NEW transformers, the comic guy replied, "We only carry REAL transformers, not those stupid new knockoffs." Maybe the guy should get out more....geeze.

Lastly, I've signed up to become a Notary Republic - THANKS!

Gee whiz, I go to Daves at least once a week for years and always have gotten a fair price. Definatley NOT an example of the comic book guy.

Congrats man! That is a lot of stuff you have there. I didn't realize that Victory Sabre was that freakin' big!! Or, you might just be small. :tftongue

Congrats on making the local paper. :thumb Maybe not the best wording/sentence structure but an uplifting achievement none the less. Also great job with the collection, and welcome to the fandom, a place that ultimately proves you don't have to be a geeky comic book guy to enjoy collecting and playing with toys.

BTW I'm sure most friends/ family we all share would sooner see us grown up tykes collecting harmless toys rather than invest ourselves in things like drinking/drugs/cigarettes/pRon. i know mine do even though they don't understand the reasoning behind it, but hey that's parents for you. :tflaugh

So many people see me wearing a TF shirt and comment about it, and they didn't know TFs were still around.

Just wait until the movie hits. That'll show up it's still around. I just hope it doesn't suck.

That's right, my collection (and being in the right place at the right time) got me in the newspaper. Check it out! It even had a color photo with me sitting in front of this cardboard display stand I own from when TFTM was first released on VHS. It's not the best written article (he misquoted my explanation of gestalts and got that I post on TFormers when I really just go there for my news) but hey, it's about a Transformers collection!

Sorry it's small, I'm not so good with internet stuff. If anyone wants the full text (if you're having trouble reading it), I can type it out. It was in todays (Sunday April 3rd) Times Herald Record for anyone who lives in the Hudson Valley and wants to see it.

Yeah, I imagine the fact that I've never smoked, or had a sip of alcohol, and plan to keep it that way, keeps my parents from complaining about my collection too much.

Ugh, talk about annoying comic collector people. Couple years ago I'm at the local comic shop and this big obnoxious guy starts talking to me about Transformers, and not knowing what he's really talking about. Anyway, I had started a pile of old issues of GIJoe (some stuff about Snake Eyes mainly) and before I am even aware of what's happening the guy has taken two or three issues out of my pile and paid for em. I was totally pissed, and I just ended up leaving without buying anything because I didn't want to make a scene. The cutthroat collector who didn't know anything just nixed my day. But oh well, I don't imagine my life would be any better if I had those issues right now.

First off, congrats I really like the movie cardboard cut out!! And is your shirt made from the 1984 bed sheet set? I use that as a couch cover to keep cat hairs off of it.

Am I the only one that combines social activities and obessed collecting?

Just last week i bought 3 alternators and finished 2 Energon gestalts as well as spent time with my friends. Me collecting transformers to my friends is just a part of being me. they don't have a problem with it and neither do my co-workers.

That's usually one of the first things i tell my new co-workers is that I'm a little obsessed with toys. Many of them are amazed that they are still being made. It doesn't bother me that I'm a little bit of a nerd and I don't think anyone should be ashamed of liking Optimus Prime that much.

Anyone who calls you their friend but makes fun of your hobby, are they really your friend? I think not.
