MINI Cooper robot...

Recommended Posts

well, since he doesn't actually transform, is he still going to be considered a TF or just some ordinary action figure! If it was up to me i'd be calling it an Alternators Action Master!

Can we keep this on topic please? :roll I would hate to think they would want to produce those as opposed to an Alternator. They don't look really bad, but they're not as cool as a licensed Transformers product would be.

I think part of the problem is that the MINI robot was never intended to be a Transformer to begin with (unlike the Citroen), it was simply a "road safety" robot built from MINI parts.

There is no way for Hasbro could get a Transformer to look like exactly like the MINI robot - as the robot doesn't even use all of a MINI's body parts.  Therefore, it wouldn't surprise me if MINI didn't like Hasbro's attempts (if it is true a Transformer version was considered) because they couldn't get a very good match to the thier robot (and if the Transformer version doesn't look like the robot in the ads, why should MINI even bother?).

I got mine in the mail last week. I like him.  However, he's a display piece and not a "toy" (he's pretty fragile - about the same sturdiness as an assembled plastic model kit, a child would break him within five minutes).  I think he's cool as a physical representative of MINI's "alternative web advertising" campaign (and one of the first widely publicized).

Other than his fragility (which I'm sure will irritate some people who were expecting toy-like durability), one thing I find odd about him is that his top half is about 1:18 scale and his lower half is about 1:12 (my guess is they made the legs a bit larger to improve his stability).

I still think its a ill-chosen, doomed to fail cash-in.  Youll be aggreeing with me when "super Hong-Long Value Mart" in your local downtown stats selling them for 2 bucks/quid in  years time.

Ironically, as a piece of car memorabilia that is only available from a dealer/online, they'll be worth more in twenty years than any Alt.  Official dealer-only promos have always very done well in the secondary market.

I puke on minis.  Seriously, I hate them.  I almost want to ram them off the road when I see them.  Luckily, I live in Texas.  People like big cars here.
