Alt Dead End - Windshield Mod

Recommended Posts

I saw a Dead End customized into Universe Razorclaw, courtesy of our own Furious George...

It had the Windshield turned around to the backside, which I really liked. The original mod pix and instructions are from this Alt Wildrider custom...

It said to to cut out the U shaped piece from the windshield, but I did it a different way.

I took apart the hips (screws in the back), and slipped the windshield off. Then I just rounded the square post that holds the torso into the hips. It allows the hips and legs to turn while leaving the windshield in place, and the windshield is no looser than before. You still need to trim the floorboard where noted in the original to allow the hips to turn without the windshield. You also need to fold the steering wheel down as far as possible to allow the windshield to be pushed up flush to the hips after the legs are twisted around.

The "backpack" that is his trunk is now more angled because the windhsield prevents it from sitting flush against his back, but it doesn't look any worse.

(The original Wildrider mod must actually be non-transformable because there is no way to make the windshield rotate as seen in its pics, without taking it apart and flipping it everytime you want to go from bot to car.)

I would have taken pictures of this in process, but didn't have my cam. :tdown

I think it looks better this way and helps to differentiate him even more from Sideswipe.

BTW... does anybody know why Dead End is named as such, and not Wildrider who he seems to resemble much more?

One last pic because it's teh r0xx0rz!1!

Can't be tf huh?

I haven't tried the mod myself so I wouldn't know.

...not unless you create a rotating connector in between the actual windshield and it's hinge, so that it could rotate spearately from the entire windshield assembly. I can't see where there would be room for such a rotating device.

If you take the legs off and the windshield section out (really simple- 1 screw), take a look and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Neat! I'll have to try that. I've never been totally satisfied with that mold, so I'm always willing to try new mods as long as they aren't extreme. That second link doesn't work for me, though.

On a related note, does anyone know if it's possible to do the trunk-chest mod on Dead End? I'd really like to see what he looks like with a trunk chest!

Thanks. That's good in that it shows me it is possible, however, it does not do much to illustrate the modding process involved. It appears as though the roof must be entirely disconnected, which is something I'm not too keen on doing. Has anyone else tried this?

Also, I hope that's what Sunstreaker's alt mode looks like (only yellow, duh).

What Sunstreaker?

Anydangway, I certainly don't think two wrongs would make a right ny putting the trunk-chest mod on a Alt Sunstreaker, kitbash or announced official release.

My guess is the connecting rod between the trunk and the hood has been removed, with the roof being fixed directly to the windshield. After that it's basically just the standard Sideswipe reverse-chest mod by all appearances.

I just meant, if and when they get around to making an official one. I wasn't referring to the trunk-chest setup, though. I just think the alt mode looks good with the Dead end and Sideswipe components combined like that.

I fixed the link to the original Wildrider custom in the first post.

  • 2 weeks later...

Sorry about the bumb but has anyone considered trying this mod with Sideswipe? I thought it might look cool.
