that is an interesting perspective, im glad we got some out of the box thinkers in here bringing up new ideas like that

But I don't think it's right though.

Takara produced all of the pre-movie toys as well (at least, 98% of them). And as I recall, I thought Floro Dery had a hand in character design for the guys who appeared in TF:TM. But not knowing that for sure, I'll leave it alone.

But the age-old "what killed G1" question doesn't have a single answer. But here are a few possible contributing factors:

1. Fan base growing older

2. Killing off Optimus Prime

3. Replacing pretty much the entire cast of characters

4. Season 3 (poor animation and character/story development)

Interesting perspective though. Perhaps the "futuristic vehicles" only added to the sense of upheaval in the series (as in "this doesn't look like Transformers anymore").

How so?

Which molds where produced by Takara in the 1984 and 1985 lines?

Optimus and the majority of the cars and seekers and triple changers are all Diaclone... Megatron is Browning (I think?)... Shockwave is something odd related to Radioshack... Soundwave and crew are Microman... I know the Constructicons are something really strange... as is Omega Supreme... Jetfire is Bandai...

The only molds I thought Takara actually did themselves where Perceptor and Reflector... although I have never heard of who did all the mini-bots, so I don't know.

All those above molds make up the majority of the first 2 years... what was Takara involvement in "creating" those molds?  Yes... they layed there copyright to them, but they where all brought, not original creations.

Diaclone was owned by Takara pal...so was Microchange (the Mini-Bots).

Takara made almost 90% of all the G1 toys period. So your theory kinda runs flat.

*Edit: And Megatron isn't Browning...Browning is a completely different mold.

When did Takara buy Diaclone?  Before the molds that became G1 figures where created or after?

Is Diaclone and Microman and Microchange still related to Takara/Hasbro now?

And I stated I wasn't too postive on Megatrons origin...

And micro-change... thankyou.

But you're missing a bit of the point...

Transformers was successful when the toys had origins tied into Micro-Change, Diaclone, Microman, Bandai, whoever made Megatron, etc.  The second everything was united under the Takara banner it fell apart.  Why is that?  I'm suddenly starting to think that the "facts" are wrong... that Takara had no tie to those companies during the original creating of the molds...

I don't think it has much of anything to do with Takara...I think it's simply because everything got away from what was at the core of TF's...

Realistic objects, cars, tanks, etc...Plus Prime was killed and Season 3 went into the crapper, which didn't help.

I mean Hasbro helped with this decision, so it can't all be blamed on them.

And Takara owned Micro-Change, Diaclone, and Microman all originally. Everythign was made from them that was in the '84 toyline as well as most if not all the '85 line.

Oh and Takara made most of the G1 figs as Diaclone/Microman in the 70's....so...Takara hit it good with those. So your theory as I said kinda goes "meh".

Not trying to be a jackass bout it, so please don't take it as such. I'm just trying to fill you in.

Takara didn't kill G1, Hot rod killed G1
