Guardian Prime

Recommended Posts

I've nevr posted work in progress pics before, but here's a prodesktop model of Guardian Prime (yep, it's Dai Atlas). I've yet to add the wings and weapons, but I wondered what you thought. Something feels a bit wrong about it. Comments?

Update: Here's the finished model and bio:

Guardian Prime

"Power is earned but never wanted."

Bio: The fifth Autobot to hold the Matrix, Guardian never wanted the power and responsibility it brought. Formally an aspiring artist, he found the pressures of office increasingly difficult to cope with, handing more and more power to the High Council. Eventually, he retired from the public gaze, living alone within the vast Central Tower. So he would have remained, if it were not for the emergence of Magmatron and the Destrons.

Abilities: Has great intelligence and creative capacity. Matrix-upgraded body is a surprisingly agile powerhouse. Transforms into an all terrain drill tank equipped with diamond tipped drills and heavy duty treads. An anti-grav drive, also usable in robot mode, allows flight.

Weaknesses: [From datatracks of Alpha Trion] Psychologically, Guardian was unsuited for leadership, to such an extent that I question the Source's choice. However, events have begun to change this.

Note on Chronology:

Guardian Prime is the fifth prime; Alpha, Beta, Solos, Jafcon, Locus, Guardian, Magus, Sentinal, Optimus, Rodimus etc... He reigned from the middle of the first Golden age to the end of the Second Great War (against the Destrons).

I like him, and cant wait to see an alt. mode, but he doesn't seem quite 'prime' to me, maybe a face plate would help. anyway good work.

The interesting fact is that Optimus is the only Prime shown to ever use a face plate (nemesis primes aside). Sentinal, Rodimus, Prima/Alpha Prime - no face plate.

Of course, Dai Atlas didn't have a face plate, but I might shange that.

Thanks!

I don't know what the original design was like, but the cheek lines coming down from the nose make his face look a little weird to me. Is he supposed to look aged?

Also for his limbs are positions that his joints wouldn't allow, and that seems "off". Add a couple of ball joints or geared joints so the poses look more believable and "realistic".

Besides those two things, very solid design. Good work so far.

I agree about the lines on his face. Dai Atlas has got them but they don't really suit the character I'm building for Guardian.

ProDesktop is not meant for 3D modelling (I put this in every thread I start about these models) It only alows for centring axies and mating/aligning parts. Ball joints are a recipe for disaster. You have to build each part (arm, leg etc) separatly, from smaller parts, and move those rather than stick together a big model and manipulate it.

I need to tweak his thigh joints though.

Replaced WIP with finished model. Enjoy :thumb

When was Sentinal Prime ever seen? Other than a mangled hand in the War Within Comics, I haven't seen him.

*shrugs*

In TF UK The Legacy of Unicron Part 5, when Unicron is telling his origins to Death's Head, Optimus' predesesor is shown (looking remarkably like Rodimus). It doesn't say that this is Sentinal, but that's who I assume it is.

I really like the profile.

The 3d art is nice but the legs and hips seem a little to close togethor.

Your art skills are out of this world. Awsome job.
