I prefer it to be realistic enough, but not dark, at least not too dark. It needs a lighter side, something to make you grin from time to time. I don't like the ever constant end of the world plots. Balance is key.

Light. I'm sure I'm in the minority. But my sense is if it's animated, I like to walk away smiling. I purposely avoid dark animated series like Gargoyles, the Batman incarnations, and even some of the 80's toy plug shows which, cheesy or not, insisted on all action and not an iota of humor.

Juvenile and stupid , I know. But I buy kids' toys, so I don't care!

In my opinion, Beast Wars was great (especially the first season) because it had a good mix of light and dark. The later seasons got quite a bit darker, but still a great series.

I prefer it dark, one of my favorite animes is Big O, and its not to dark, just confusing in its own right. Also a big fan of Gargoyles and Batman the animated series back from the early 90's.

I would like to see a darker transformers series set fore a more mature audience, but also one that doesnt follow some great big story ark.

I perfer dark themes/tones with a few humorous characters and/or situations. I like actual war with characters loosing limbs, bombs going off, and devestation abound, but with that I like a mix of happier times and less somber moments.

I don't like the kiddie, bullets/lasers bouncing off like Armada. One of the biggest turn offs actually.

G1 First Season had lots of big-time injuries such as Prime getting shot-up and Ironhide taking a massive shoulder-injury. I mean sure there was a bit of campiness, but many TF's got shot and injured badly in the First Season of G1.

G1 Season Two is a bit hit or miss to me for episodes I like, just like Season Three. I like them all overall, but First Season was much closer to what I enjoy from TF's and TF:TM is EXACTLY what I enjoy about TF's.

The way I see, to add an element of realism to the story would have to include both the light and dark. Nobody walks around all serious all the time, we use our humor to break up monotony. Thats how the stories should be, more serious with no slapstick type humor just the normal everyday kind.

Things like Kicker kicking Ironhide all the time and Ironhide actually saying ouch was beyond stupid and not funny in the least. Human characters have to stop being portrayed as a bunch of drama queens on crack too.

Ditch the one long story arc and get back to the old ways of individual stories. It's really nice to be able to watch episodes that don't have to depend on seeing all of them to know whats going on. For those who like the epic story arc you can still drop subtle hints throughout each episode building up an epic conclusion that don't take away from individual episodes themselves. Think of a more compacted version of the Babylon 5 type of storyline. The epic part of the story could be saved for the last 5-10 episodes meanwhile the rest of them can stand on their own, that way everyone gets what they want.

maybe along the same lines as Star Wars/Star Trek. realistic but not overtly dark.

Light hearted but with an over all sence of danger. I like the 1/2 hour "Megatron's plot of the week" for the first quarter of a series then the poop hits the fan and at the end you see how it all ties together. Sorta like Armada, the first half was the minicon of the day then when they had a substatial number unicron shows up.

I also dig over the top drama, like TF's shouting "Transformer!" then some kinda Transformeation sequance... or having entire cities explode or something.

Like Shin Getter Robo: Armageddon.

I like both, but prefer the dark(er).

BW was a good mix of light and dark.

BM was way too dark, and the one giant story arc got in the way of weekly enjoyment.

RiD was very light, and fun in it's own right, but it also had a story arc to it that made it good.
