More rumors that Dreamwave is in bankruptcy

Recommended Posts

Below is a link to an article by CBR that said that they have obtain more info from "transformer vs G.I. Joe" writer John Reiber that Dreamwave is indeed going into Bankruptcy and that Pat Lee is scrambling to find finances to restructure the company. The article also states that Hasbro has not renewed Dreamwave's license for Transformer. I just hope Pat Lee does pull a rabit out of his ass and keep his company afloat because I really like the G1 and war within storyline

With Reiber now coming out and saying the company is dying, things don't look to be going well for DW, shame, I really wanted to see the BW series :tfsad

I believe they started streching themselves too thin. Does anybody else agree with me? Their cash cow was Transformers. That's what everyone(including myself) wanted. So then they start doing all these other comics that no-one gives two sh*ts about. Duel Masters and some of that other crap. They should have spent all their time, resources and money on Transformers. With that comic doing so well, they have to be complete and total morons to go into bankrupcy like that. I mean, c'mon! The comic was/is selling like hotcakes! They should have put all their effort into Transformers. I beleieve they streched themselves too thin and started investing capital and resources into those unpopular franchises, and now are suffering for it. Pat Lee must be a complete and total dumbass.

Yep, I read it, and just as I expected:

However, heavy licensing costs, natural reader wastage, combined with an inability to transfer that readership to other properties and costs from being a top-heavy company have led to the current position.

"An inability to transfer readership to other properties and costs."

That says it all right there. I have been thinking this for a while. Seeing as how they haven't been getting Generation One Ongoing out anywhere near on time. The comic is always about two months behind.

Just because they might go under doesn't mean the TF books will stop. I would bet some bigger, more financially stable company buys them out, keeps on the writers/artists, and actually makes the kind of $$$ these books can potentially bring in.

I think Devil's Due is going to pick it up. Pat Lee used to work for Devil's Due before he broke away and started Bankruptcywave, I mean Dreamwave. :D

Well by looking at the article, it seems the Hasbro has not renewed Dreamwave's license so what's the point in another company picking them up. Another company is better off just going to Hasbro and buying the license and picking up all the freelace artist and writers from Dreamwave. That way they can continue with the book and not have to absorb any of the financial woes of DW. That would be the smart business decision to make. And DW owner Pat Lee can sell off the remaining story arcs and creative ideas to the other company that obtained the licnese and take the money to get part of his ass out of debt.

I wonder if we are going to see anymore DW transformer comics?? I've checked Diamond shipping list and no DW Transformer related products have came out in the last 3 weeks not counting the (ACTOR covers of micromaster and energon #25 which are rehashed covers). It seems like all their comics has been on a really long delay.

dw comics typically only come out once a month anyway, so they may still be on schedule(of sorts)
