Not too fond of the term "brother" in relation to Transformers. Can only 'accept' this when indeed it is used to describe something else than the pure family meaning it has for humans.

Although neither the G-1 Cartoon or comic described the relation between Prime and Magnus as no other than old friends and brothers in arms, RiD made them brothers and also in Dreamwave's work are they described as brothers. Again, for me this is not the family meaning, but more the acknowledgment of certain similarities.

i agree

I do agree with that idea that Dion is likely the one made into Ultra Magnus and that he got the battle armor where prime got the matrix. Due to their same build they are something like brothers in my view and that is the main reason I would agree. But there is nothing official about it in the original cartoon and comics to verify that. But in my opinion they are. Heck if Magnus was shown in the original toon in his 'Prime' form I think people would think way differently. For example in the movie if Prime gave the matrix to Magnus in his Prime form I think most would have liked him to be the new leader.

I like the way Dreamwave put it, whether its canon or not- so there(plugs ears and sings :P ).

So if they're brothers...who's der mama? :eek2

No, cause it was never mentioned in animation (ie the official Canon)

Who exactly made "animation" the "official" canon? Back in the day, both the cartoon and the Marvel comics were licensed by Hasbro, thus equally "official", regardless of spread, availability (free broadcast vs. paying for comics) or the magnitude of the audience.

At this point, regarding "Generation One", the Dreamwave comics are licensed by Hasbro and thus "official". Keep in mind, "official" is not "what the majority of fans believe/insist".

Yah I agree

If the toons were official there are some really bizarre things in the TF universe ;)

I don't like this whole 'brothers' terminology in the TF world either. Sunstreaker and sideswipe are brothers yet sideswipe more closely resembles red alert. WHy aren't prowl, bluestreak and smokescreen brothers? Or the seekers for that matter. I prefer to think of the 2 brothers as more blood (oil?!) brothers rather than biological brothers, hence why sun and side look different but are considered as being brothers. As for Magnus and Prime I think it's similar that they are brothers in arms, commander and lieutenant, nothing more. After all, depending which origin (cartoon or comic) you read, the TFs are essentially off an assembly line - that makes for one heck of an extended family when you've a whole series of starscream type robots!! I like the idea that Dion became Magnus tho, never thought of that before.

No, because his existence as a white Optimus Prime is a product of manufacturing frugality and nothing more. As a character he has always been Ultra Magnus and nothing else but that.

Yeah. His tech specs should read: Ultra Magnus, a big Beastbox of a robot. :tflaugh

i dont think they are brothers just cause they look alike, with sideswipe and sunstreaker, they are brothers and look nothing alike. the fact that the cab robot modes look so much alike must have a different explaination. even if they were twins, they shouldnt look the same because prime is his upgraded form after taking tha matrix. unless magnus at some point early on had possession of the matrix and it changed him to. im interested to see how DW is gonna expand on why they look the same

For me, anything that is officially approved by Hasbro whether it is cartoon or comics are canon. I'll go with Magnus and Prime being brothers. At least DW decided to explain where the heck the white cab goes when Magnus becomes a robot, and Magnus wasn't as big as a wuss he was in the cartoon. In War and Peace, Magnus' shows his tough side and even kicks Shockwave's ass even when he was nearly wrecked.
