Good info here, man. I'm not looking at tearing apart my transformers, but I do want to try painting. First Target - RID Yellow Optimus Prime - I want to do a black one. I tried just coloring in the autobot symbols on the shoulder plates and chest, and it was a GREAT improvement - too bad a sharpie doesn't totally dry. (But at least it's wiped off with the greatest invention ever - Goo Gone.)

 

So to make it clear as to the best method - Before painting it black, I shall want to paint it grey? I'd like to keep SOME yellow in it, but a small amount. Should I dab some vaseline over those parts, or tape them?

 

I'll just have to practice quite a bit, with how you reccomend 3 coats. Don't want it too thick, because I WILL want to transform my concoctions every now and then.
