ALternator repainting

well, anyway, Dark Lord Prime, do you know how to remove metal pegs from alternators? and/or how to remove wheels

Is there a reason why you want to remove the pegs and wheels? If all your doing is repainting, then it shouldn't be necessary to remove them. May require more masking but still should be able to paint without removing them. Now if you want to switch out the wheels and replace them, then the technique I use is to cut the wheels off completely, leaving just the metal pin there. Now, with some pliers, pull the pin straight out from the plastic (make sure its straight out, you don't want to bend the pin). Now drill some holes in the new wheels and attach it on with the pins. You can buy short screws to replace the pins if you bent the pins.

VP is correct as always removing the wheels is not necessary just take the tires off and use masking tape or painters tape to keep paint off the rims.

i find a hammer works wonders when dissasembling stuff

;)

:tfhuh a hammer he wants to take it apart not destroy it! No hammers! Use a leather man pocket tool it has a small tool that I think is a leath punch but I find it works great on the small screws in the Alternators. And you`ll have a number of tools at your disposal at any time mine even has a pair of sissors. :tfgrin

Well that wasnt what he SPECIFICALLY asked, and he didnt say he didnt want to destroy it

:P

Any more techniques? I am curious about how to do this as well as I thought that most kitbashing was done in a way where you were able to paint more easily if an ALTERNATOR was taken apart and then reassembled.

you could always try hot water, that'll loosen up the parts... but be careful, it can make joint loose (like knee joints).
