Should BLAME come off Hasbro/Takara & on the Economy?

Recommended Posts

Hasbro should do direct DVD movies and explore new stories with older series or even do IDW stories like what Marvel and DC have been doing for years. There's a market there. I'd love to see a movie with the Beast Wars guys again. Doesn't have to be CG. If retailers are interested in GIJoe and that random towline of different video game characters, why wouldn't they be interested in TFs that doesn't have any media support?

Ok, seriously? Catering solely to G1/Classics would kill the line. 8-10yr old probably have little to NO clue what G1 characters look like. Collectors are but a speck of dust in comparison to kids when it comes to sales. Let G1 go.

I guess so, but wouldn't it all be new to them anyway?

Yes it would all be new to the 8 - 10 demograph, But to keep their attention to it. Hasbro would have to redo the G1 cartoon. Which is why they do not. and instead focus on bringing new incarnations of Transformers.

We as collectors and fans should accept this, since it is the only way to keep Transformers fresh and exciting thus keeping the brand going. Even if we disagree with it

I don't think that there can be a real killing to the G-1 line except in the way the ball has been dropped lately with the mismanagement of the suppliers and the way figures have been announced and then canceled. I think it's set a precident of uneasiness in the eyes of the collectors which has made the Transformers brand shelves bare when they should have more than enough stock at the stores to keep fans and children alike happy. I don't believe I've ever seen a time of such disregard for the fans interest from what's been going with mismanagement during the last year or so with missing items that we've had to search long and hard for to cancelling so many figures and I still have to wonder what it's all about.

Making G-1 inspired toys wouldn't be beating a dead horse for children. All children know is..."Wow! Cool robot and he/she changes into this??!! COOOOOOOOLLLL". I've seen the reactions in the stores and I've felt that it's this that the line should be created for in the first place and there are ways of making us both happy. Sleek, fantastic designs, powerful dinosaurs and animals, Jets and helicopters of ariel acrobatic daring. The wonderment of combiners! That's what it's all about and what captures our imaginations and keeps us buying

And why can't a G-1 Cartoon maybe done in 3 or 2D survive with Transformers Prime? In the G-1 Styled cartoon why can't the designs from Classics/Universe/Generations be used to tell the story and support add ons and new characters to the story. If need be Hire the guys from Dreamworks and IDW to spearhead the stories? Maybe make a movie in the TF Prime style just using G1? There is so much that can be done but I too think that G-1 is a story that can be retold with the flair of todays story writers.

Rumblebee I like where you are taking this and I wish Hasbro would do it. But they wont touch it, Even though I do think the designs we have been getting in the ClassicVerse would be perfect for an updated G-1. I just think Hasbro is going to stay away from it and leave G1 in the comics and the figures.

The mismanagement has been going on since ROTF. So many are being canceled that would have been made or even released if it weren't for the distribution issues that Hasbro it seems likes to plague itself with.

I have been saying this for years. They have so many story lines they can pick from. And I agree it doesn't have to be cg.

Here's my take. The economey is & has become Hasbro's lame "go to" scape goat. The cold hard facts are the product (bothe movie, toon, & toy) has been sub par for a while now. The star dust has long since worn off the 1st movie. I said years ago people were being "bewitched" by Bay's FX dept......but no one would listen. That is untill we got a Jet Fire walking with a cane & robot testicles.....need I go on?

As for the toon Animated & Prime......Hasbro is hell bent on shoveing cheap CGI Anime' style down our throats. If you like CGI....fine, but it never garners the aclaim that's needed to bring TFs to the next level of toon icon statious like G1 did.

And M. Bay....dear lord where do I begin. The man just ended up listening to all the wrong people as to which encarnation he should go with. I'll leave it at that.

The toys are hanging on by a thread. Supported by only a hand full of die hard fans. Much like with the toons, Hasbro is hell bent on jedi mind tricking us into accepting cheap watered down anime' style bots that have no real apeal. If its not this....then Hasbro is repainted its classic lines & offering them up like a fat Elvis singing the same tired song to ageing bleach blond devotees who max out credit cards for a sweat soaked hankerchief. Hasro has indeed become the toy communities town whore selling what ever it can just to get over the next financhel hump.

Sad....

I've done my share of beating up Hasbro but it's time for retail to take their share of the lumps. As I said in another thread, corporate constipation has been the the single biggest problem that most retailers are facing. What they are doing is paying more people less money and just working them all over instead of people being left to really specialize in their separate areas. While they may have "leads" over that area, they are never given time, people, or enough opportunity to keep up with all that is needed to properly care for their departments. You need only look around any department at any store you go to. Try and find someone with a lot of knowledge about those areas and most can tell you very little if anything at all that could help.

Big retail is employing more corporate level management than ever before and it's really jamming things up. Too many chiefs, not enough indians! So while that creates a rift in itself between highly paid execs and low paid grunts, but it makes life even more unbearable to have 10 different bosses up you butt ON TOP of whatever corporate visitors are coming to crawl up your butt that week. Meanwhile those grunts feel overworked, underpaid, under-appreciated, and are enduring more stress than ever before.

It is it any wonder that things don't operate properly?

The retail world is a perfect reflection of the mess that corporations have created with our economy. Too money heavy at the top, not enough making it down the line. It wouldn't surprise me to see that 80% or more of the total wages paid by most big retailers are to the executive level employees, many of which don't know nearly as much as the grunts they reign over. The working class, is being choked off. Sound familiar?

With that, everything fails. The corporate douchebags will never accept this because it's a suggestion that threatens their position and their salary so why would they ever consider that they themselves are their own biggest problems? They never will, but that won't stop it from being true! Again, sound familiar?
