Original store prices of G1s?

Recommended Posts

Anybody remember how much G1s actually cost back in the day? I'm pretty sure they were comparable to today's TF prices. If I remember, Mini-Autobots were $3.99, Autobot cars were $10-12, the jets were around $15, Soundwave and Megatron were about $20 and Prime was $25-30.

Been awhile though.

I did have a box for Silverbolt up in the attic. He came from KMart and was originally $11.99.

Anyplace on the net that has a price listing for the old toys? Just curious...

Yeah, I remember they were expensive. To get Predaking would set a kid back $75. Yowch!

Anyone remember how much Omega Supreme, Metroplex and Trypticon were?

I think I saw an original catalog at OTFCC listing Optimus at $24.99.

But, you have to account for inflation

I remember Dinobots being around $15.

The prices quoted are in a good range, also don't forget the minicons and cassettes were $7 to $12ish. But in the end, I don't know why any of the G1 pricing matters, you cannot buy any of them for the former prices... it is a moot point.

What's wrong with asking about the prices? I'm sure economists do it all the time when studying inflation.

Yeah, I do it a lot, part of my love of G1 is nostalgia, and how much we paid back then (especially compared to some of the crazy amounts we pay now). Kinda like thinking about how comic books were $1 when I got into them (the non-hologram foil-embossed deluxe edition comics, that is).

When I bought the G2 Constructicons, they were $5-6 each, G1 was maybe the same.

Nostalgia. And I find it odd we're still paying basically the same prices now as we did in 1984. Toys seem to be about the only thing that HAVEN'T gone up in price radically in the past 20 years.

Oh, and the Constructicons were around $6.99 at KB Toys. My mom bought me a set for my 9th birthday. She let me pick them out, because she didn't know which ones I had. Ah, memories...
