LM, I figured as such.

I will post me thoughts on the series after I first receive my DVD's and then have had a chance to watch a few of them. I don't think it would be fair of me to watch only the first couple episodes and then make comments.

The Simpsons and Star Trek Next Generation were both pretty awful in their first season and then got better from there. It's fairly typical of many shows.

However, I doubt that the current Transformers shows will be getting better any time soon. It's such a shame that when I like the toys in a line the shows are awful and when there's a good show I can't stand the toys. BAH! :wtf

Blech, extra post.

You might surprise yourself. I'm still not a big fan of the '96 BW toys, but they got better in '97 and the Transmetals are all awesome.

Well, this is probably not the place to discuss it, but part of my diapproval of them is that, although I like "beast" form transformers, I don't like ones with hair, feathers, etc. For some reason I can let this go with figures like Big Convoy and some others, but, for example, the Dinobot Beast Wars toys that were recently reissued at Walmart - man, those are ass. It doesn't help that some of them are "shell-formers."

Beast Wars II Galvatron is awesome, though. The Transmetals, I assume, are the ones that wound up being reissued as Universe and the final batch of Armada figures. They're not too bad, but still not really my cup of tea. There's still something about them that I haven't quite been able to put my finger on that bothers me about them. As I said there are some here and there that are pretty good, but as a group they're my least favorite.

Anyway, I'm hoping that maybe the show will change my opinion and make me interested in some of them. I did order a Beast Machines? Rattrap (the big green one) from BBTS the other day. They had him for 5 bucks and he looks OK to me.

The Dinobots you're talking about were actually released as part of the Beast Machines line in America, and were imported from BW Neo or whatever. They never appeared in any shows or anything.

To my knowledge, the only Transmetals in Universe so far are Depthcharge and Tigerhawk (a.k.a. Razorclaw), but maybe I'm forgetting someone. Most of the Beast-era toys in Universe have been from Beast Machines.

But yes you're right -- Armada Cheetor, Airrazor, Terrorsaur, Rhinox, and Predacon (a.k.a. Transmetals Megatron) are all BW Transmetals toys. Of course the vacuumized chrome parts on the original figures (and the lack of ASS paint schemes) made them look a heck of a lot better than the Armada repaints.

I started liking the toys as I got to know the characters better. That's really what did it for me.

Oh BTW: the "fur-formers" you were expressing a dislike of are only in the first season. The Transmetals switch the idea around so that the beast modes are robotic and the robot modes look more organic (even then it's more referential than full-on beastyness), and the Transmetals 2 toys are... well, they're harder to describe. The one thing you can definitely say about them is that they're asymmetrical.

I took a long hiatus away from Transformers from when I was about 16-17 until I was about 30 years old. So, I didn't even KNOW there was such a thing as G2 (or even that G1 had started being called G1) until I started seeing Transformers-related websites online once I got back into collecting. I was somewhat aware of Beast Wars, but since I missed everything in between, the "fur-formers" stuff was a real turn-off coming (in my mind) directly on the heels of the Headmasters toys. I think Mindwipe might have been the very last Transformer I purchased prior to my entry into old age (uh, turning 30).

Initial first character impressions having watched 3 episodes now:

1. Cheetor is EXTREMELY annoying. He's Hot Rod/E. Ironhide/any other "brash young warrior" combined. I wish they'd get away from featuring him so much.

2. Rattrap is an interesting character. I'm not sure if I like him yet or not. He reminds me a bit too much of the Jerky Boys guys, but we'll see where it goes from here.

3. Rhinox is the best of the bunch for the Maximals. Unfortunately, he doesn't seem to get much "face time" in the series so far.

4. Optimus Primal is what he is; the usual Optimus Prime. I do like seeing him get a little frustrated with Rattrap. He seems to be the best overall animated character in teh show, but his catch phrase "That's just Prime" is a bit much.

5. The Predacons are all morons, except for Megatron and Dinobot. I'm hoping some actually competent minions will show up for Megatron later in teh show.

6. Dinobot's definitely the most interesting character in the show. His personality seems to shift a bit from episode to episode, but his actions are always interesting. My first impression of him was immediately, "Hey, he's Starscream!"

7. Megatron is an intesting change away from the G1 Megatron. He's more refined, but more easily angered it seems. There's not yet been much character development there, so I'm waiting to see what happens with him.

Charaterization seems to be a notch above G1, but there are significantly fewer characters to start off with as well. Overall I like the charaters so far. :thumb

Just keep watching. My first impression of Cheetor was the same as well. :redface Trust me, It gets way better. :thumb

Yeah, you will definitely see all of the main characters evolve over time. And you're right about Megatron -- he has a shorter fuse than G1 Megatron, but he's also a much better strategist. :tflaugh

And yes, there will be better Predacons later on. :D

BTW there's a great payoff for Primal's catchphrase later on, in the beginning of Season 3. I won't spoil it for you though. :thumb

1. He is the young character in the show, annoying in season 1, but later on he's better.

2. Rattrap is awesome.

3. Rhinox did deserve more screen time.

4. Optimus Primal is NOT Optimus Prime, he may be a leader, but he was never intended to be fighting a "war". He also doesn't carry the Matrix, so he's NOT Optimus Prime. I'm just clarifying this, as some people think he is a Prime, which he isn't.

5. Well, it was easier for Megs to control them then, no?

6. Dinobot is the best character of this entire series PERIOD.

7. Megatron ownz.

Season 1 introduces the characters and sets them up. In season 2 & 3, the show is much more interesting.
