Don Murphy about the TF movie

Recommended Posts

Venting in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...

Here was Don Murphy's plan for making this movie all along...

Murphy said this would be a retelling of G1. Now the internet buzz quickly becomes feverish (I believe more so than if they just announced a generic TF movie). Then he goes to Hasbro and the Hollywood studios saying, "There are already 100s of 1000s of internet posts about my (possible) TF movie from guys/gals who were rabid for it as kids and will bring their own families to see it!", and gets the funding. Now that he used our enthusiasm to get the Hasbro and studio backing, he will make whatever he thinks is good...exisiting mythology be damned.

At first, I went insane over all Murphy's "I know TF better than you", "no mass-shifting, Megs as a gun was a bad-sushi-induced dream, searching for the matrix, blah, blah, blah" changes. I thought, "he's reading our posts, listening to advice/ideas, so fanboys will go crazy and ready the noose and Murphy'll have to give on some issues."

But, no. Go read his boards. He tells everyone how it's gonna be. Then some (thankfully) outspoken people complain, and immediately get pounced on by a bunch of Murphy's board member flunkies posting reply garbage like, "Don's doing us a favor by making "our" movie. How dare you complain about his choices" (garbled because Murphy's b*lls are in their mouths), and defend to the death Don's most stupid decisions.

Bottom line is...the Bottom Line!

MURPHY IS NOT MAKING THIS FILM TO PLEASE US, HE IS MAKING IT TO MAKE MONEY! It really won't be an accurate G1 retelling, as promised. It will be made to appeal to everyone, which is always a surefire way to be sure it appeals to noone

Like I said, at first I went insane. Now I realize that no matter how much any of us Protectobots, Don Murphy will be making Don Murphy's movie. Period. So I will sit back and forget about all the changes, keep buying my Alternators, and dish out my $12 (avg movie cost by Summer '06), on opening day (and the day after, and the day after, etc...).

...End Venting. Thx.

props to anybody that it made it thru that whole post.

Even the most optimistic person has lost interest in this movie by now. Seriously, what are they trying to do here?

Well after going through Don Murphy's posts and whatnot...I have to say I'm disappointed...guess we'll wait this one out, but I'm very disappointed.

TF's aren't live-action is the basics behind his idea, well...I guess on some level he's right, but we're not going to get our favorite TF's fleshed-out in 3-D, well-rounded justice...oh well time will tell...

Don Murphy is going to need sun-tan lotion when he dies..I hear the Good Lord In Heaven is quite the TF fan.

Thats why he made Jesu turn water into wine, turn some bread and fish into loads of food, some old smelly illeterate fishermen into public speaking priests, etc.

Heck, he turned nothing into our universe and a virgin into a mother.

Don had better get it right, ot Gods gonna make hell endless repeats of his flooped movie for him for all eternity....

As far as the Matrix deal, he said the PROBABLY won't be able to call it that, which means they might, but considering your average moviegoer is going to equate "matrix" to the Matrix films, I would think some distinction would be necessary.

Here's what I think they are going for in the film: human (or group) finds Matrix (sent away from Cybertron for whatever reason), Transformers come to Earth looking for it, giant robot mayhem ensues.

At this point, the movie could turn out either way. Will it be different from the established mythos, yes, but so was Spider-Man and X-Men, and both were hugely successful and well done films.

And at this point, any large connection to G1 will be a favor for the fans, Hasbro could easily dictate a film which would follow the current toy line.

I am getting quite sick of all this negativity over SOMETHING WE HAVE NO smurfING CLUE ON BESIDES A FEW CRYPTIC HINTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Will it suck, we don't know, and few changes (extreme mass-changing, human elements) DO NOT AUTOMATICALLY DAMN THIS EXCEPT IN THE EYES OF CLOSE MINDED "GEE-WUNNERS"!

At least wait until some details of a script or a smurfin' trailer come out before ripping it apart.

First off let me say I was a die-hard X-Men fan till the movies came out, and Marvel decided to change the comics to suit the movie. I hated both movies, hated the change in the comics, and now I don't even buy one marvel x-book.

Next, it's not "A FEW CRYPTIC HINTS" when that ass says stuff like "Well for clarity you are NOT going to get a CG animated film in which the TFS do all that (Referring to someone saying the TF's should be autonomous beings with their own thoughts, personalities, feelings, views, etc., and that they don't need a human around to hold their hands and guide them) . Or rather, I believe Paramount is releasing a direct to video film of that very thing."

So he's going to make a TF movie where the TF's are just big dumb robots with no personalities. Leave the personalities to a direct to video thing. Wow, now that IS going to make a great movie. Everything that comes out of Murphy's mouth is making this seem less like a TF movie and more like Robot Jocks or some other really bad B movie. It's not just one thing, it's everything he says.

I'm wishing the Murphy film was going to direct to vhs movie and ANYONE else was making the big budget version.

I'd like to say that Casper is another movie which featured a CG character as the prominent character.

I'm really disappointed that they can't call it the "matrix" anymore, considering the fact that TFs used that word way before the movie ever existed, but considering this movie will cater to the masses and not to just us geeky fans, it's a hard pill we have to swallow.

well, when all hope is down, and I have already decided that i cant be excited about this movie, at least I can snicker, and remember that earth humans, were thought to be an important componant by the Master's Of The Universe Movie creators as well...as they were making it.

well spiderman had minimal changes from comics to bigscreen, from what i could tell, now the x-men movie after reading the comics for yrs i hated the movie! the costumes and now the comic changes, and what's up with beast? ok i'm done ranting on them. the tformer movies is going to be great, because i'm going in the theater with horrible expectations :thumb

No, sadly there are tons of people who want to see *The Transformers*, as fully realized characters who can stand on their own, have discussions amongst themselves, plot strategy, discuss politics, talk about their hopes, dreams and experiences without a human there to hold their hand. For every "fanboy" that you describe there are atleast as many people looking for a movie about *The Transformers*... not about how *The Transformers* affect human society. Those are two different movies entirely.

I'm not convinced that's what we are going to get, but it's definitely a possiblity based on what, admittedly little, we know right now...

So they're going to be giant robots with little to no personality looking for a magic thingy to save themselves?

What's next? Human pilots and a giant lizard named Pikazilla?

I really gotta stop reading these updates. It's making my blood pressure rise... :redface
