Dotm Deluxe Prime

Recommended Posts

Bought this guy a while ago. Just wanted to share my thoughts.

Pros:

-Working light piping! Holy **** has this become rare.

-Great articulation

-Good alt mode that is fairly accurate

-Unique transformation

-Meh-Tech weapon is pretty decent when you take out the spring and could look even better once painted(I'll be doing that, too)

Cons:

-Bot mode isn't all that accurate, though you should know that going in. I don't care that much, I have the leader and BBOP for that.

-Wasted paint aps galore, such as the inaccurate yellow paint on the waist, casting the axe and shoulder panels in grey but then painting them yellow/blue instead of just casting them in that color. They could have used all this paint on the arms and other areas that actually need it.

-Super tight pegs that hold the shoulders together in alt mode may result in breakage.

-Backpack. They couldn't break it up a little, maybe split it and turn it around?

-Chest/windows area doesn't stay closed all the way in alt mode.

-No heels means trouble standing straight.

All in all a pretty nice figure despite inaccuracies and annoying tidbits.

The tight pegs and chest thing may be a QC thing. Anyone else have these problems? If not I may pick up a replacement. I tried taking it apart and it seems the chest problem is caused by the arms closing, somehow. I see nothing getting in the way. While I was taking things apart, I tried removing the backpack. He ended up with a big grey piece hanging off his ass, anyway, so the pack went back on.

I like the little fella actually, he is a nice addition for the size. But I agree about the pegs and the paint apps, there could have been a little more care taken with those.

If they repaint this in a decent fashion, then I might swap it out for another, but right now I am content with the guy.

There's a few pics out there of a repaint already and he comes with the voyager prime gun. I think it looks kind of nifty. Deluxe OP Repaint

I like the DOTM primes so far. The deluxe size is a novelty and the voyager is interesting with the rocket-powered space truck look (even though he's TINY).

I'm currently in the process of painting his gun and his arms. I don't have any brushes so I'm using these pen things I found at Walmart, they work pretty well. But I can't get into all the nooks and crannies so he''ll still have some grey on his arms. For the blade, I was going for an orange "flame" look like how he has on his arm blades, but it's not looking too good. Might paint it all silver instead.

Oh yeah, looked at that repaint. It doesn't really look better to me. It looks like he has an inaccurate red back half of the cab, possibly grey flames, and the arms are still grey. Eh. The weapon doesn't look good in red to me.

Question: Has anyone tried attaching this toy to G1 (1984) Optimus Prime's trailer? I'm asking this because Reveal The Shield Optimus Prime is able to attach to G2 Laser Optimus Prime's trailer (real REAL well!), so I'm curious to know of HasTak also made DotM Deluxe Optimus Prime 'backward compatible' with G1 Prime's trailer... cos I would totally buy this toy just for that if it could! :)

Have not tried it. But the repaint looks good but doesnt solve the problem of the detail in the chest area. Though I love that it comes with a voyager class weapon.

The Mech Tech weapons all use the universal 5mm post - so they're cross-compatible between different Class sizes and any other Transformer with the 5mm compatible post/hole. :)

I finished painting the weapon and his arms, and he looks twice as awesome.

Edit: pics added to gallery. http://forums.TForme...lbum&album=1399

I may add some black detailing to the gun, maybe more silver on the axe. Might also add some blue on forearms, and paint the rest of the shoulder kibble blue. Lost my blue pen, though.
