The task of 'commenting'

Just out of curiosity, is there anyway you can expand the front page?

Have you tried holding control and using the scroll on the mouse to adjust the size of the page? I did that a while ago and eliminated the "starry" empty background.

Yeah but then its oversized, I'm just saying its too compact and would look better after being spread out more

I just clicked on a "discuss in the forums" link for the first time. It felt good. Thanks BaCon!

Jason, between you and BaCon, I think that DOES IT! This link should be on every post from now on, then I won't spend so much time searching for a given story in the forum to comment with my fellow members! Happy days are here again... :thumb

Until a resolution is found, I'll create an anchor link for those wanting a straight jump to the forum thread when posting a news article.

I definitely agree on this. I used to click on a news item from the main site to read it and then scroll down for the comments from the forum (and if it was something I felt worth adding to it was handy to be able to 'add your own comment' straight away.)

In fact it took me ages to realise things had changed - I was seeing little or no response to news items and thinking nobody was discussing them in the forums (since I didn't used to go browsing around in the forums much). I finally realised discussions *were* happening about news items but not being featured under the news! :redface

Now I have to go hunting around the forums to find comment threads about the front page news I've already read - there should at least be a quick link IMO. I don't care what two random people on Twitter or FB are saying, I want to know what everyone on here is saying!!

This. Now I don't even bother with the front page. I just go straight to the News Discussion forum to get right into the action.

I'm a little curious as to why Tformers feels like it needs a ton of Facebook people on here. And your not going to get them because this is not a social networking site. Add more ways to connect to other members and remove Transformers from the equation and then maybe. But until then this is a forum with a speciality. Bound to get a lot of curious people especially around movie time that aren't interested enough to join. Does Tformers really contribute THAT much to ENI? New members are great but I definitely don't feel alone here. I like our community and the fact I recognize almost everybody. Especially when it comes to things like making transactions and trades, almost all the people on here are trustworthy and fun to talk/argue with. (Animated Soundwave is awesome. :S) I can't say I'd be happy to have a bunch of one-post-and-done members or worse: more spammers. Just need Liege to come back and things will be back to normal.

I attribute the need to attract Facebook user to sheer numbers. I personally have no use for Facebook but the larger the amount of traffic ENI can show to potential advertisers the more money they can get for ad space. Until I have to pay a subscription fee to use this site I have no trouble making such concessions as long as we (TFormers members) are taken into consideration. I'm happy with the "discuss in the forums" link. I think the people on this site are awesome! If you think about it, the Disqus option probably keeps some of the less savory folks from joining up.

And yes, love me some Animated Soundwave! don't be afraid to call me in the next time you need back up on that!

The success of any media news site is on how much of an audience it can amass. Let's be honest: ENI and TFormers.com survives off ad revenue. And ad revenue is generated when people visit TFormers.com and click on ads. Therefore, it's in TFormers' best interest to appease all masses. Whether it's from Facebook, Twitter or another social medium, the more TFormers can pull in all types of audiences, the more we're able to bring to the plate. That includes bringing more to the plate for the forum members.

So your saying I should go to ENI and start clicking on ads :D

You know we love you guys. So it is always a hard decision how to keep a balance. If I had it my way facebook and twitter would not exist. Anywho, GOOD NEWS! After a lot of thinking and some tinkering. I have come up with what I hope will make everyone happy. :thumb

I am going to add an button that allow you to choose to show Disqus or Forums comments on the news articles. A cookie setting will retain your choice on all posts thereafter. I am still doing some testing. But it should be done soon. I will make a board wide post to announce it when the feature has been added. Does that work for you all?
