Thunderwing

Really cool figure, although disappointing in a couple ways. Mostly I just don't like how his robot mode relies more on gravity and friction than tabs and pegs. The backpack should securely snap together and the chest should clip over the flip out pelvis piece. I also dislike how the wings don't snap into place in jet mode, but that should be really easy to fix.

Otherwise I've lopped off the shoulder points, leaving his shoulder pads nice and kibble free.

He's awesome, but requires some work.

I'm still on the bend but just may get him. He looks more like a Beast Wars character to me.

I do however love the fact that there are more characters leaping forth from the comic book pages and into toy form.

His robot mode does have a very beastial look to it, organic and cruel. He looks awesome.

His biggest flaw is that I haven't found a way to make him hold Cybertron Prime's Matrix yet. "We are . . . Thunderwing!"

When I opened him today I noticed that the little paper ties are getting VERY loose on the newer figs. Shows that they don't really hold anything in place (useless) and that the people putting them on are getting lazy/sick of it.

Well, the bubble shell ought to hold the figure in well enough in most cases. Those ties are more anti-theft than anything else.

Oh... I never thought of it like that, I figured they were to just keep everything in place. :redface

They do, they just don't have to be super tight to do it.

I picked Thunderwing up last night. Initially, he was actually disappointing. He's raised his stock a little since then, but I think that this toy represents the first step backwards in the Generations line.

It's a great homage. All the cues are there, and they really paid attention to the base mode, while presenting the best alt mode they could at this size range while ensuring that the base mode received the lion's share of the attention. Which I appreciate, since the only TFs I display in their alt modes are the ones that I REALLY don't like. He's got great weaponry, the sculpt is dead-on--he can't be mistaken for anyone else--(even though the figure shown in his instructions is clearly not Thunderwing) and he is very proportionate. In the package, his alt mode reminded me a LOT of TFA Blitzwing and the Universe Silverbolt/Darkwing mold, and I can accept that, seeing as how the concession to his base mode basically means that Thunderwing serves as a G1 homage in another, dubious fashion: in true G1 jetformer fashion, his entire, undisguised base mode is just sitting at the bottom of the jet. Very disappointing transformation process, but as both his modes are great/good, I can live with it.

Overall, I like him. I wanted to love this toy, but it's not gonna happen. Overall, Generations takes its first step backwards. I'd give Thunderwing a straight B. Not a B+, not a B-. Just a B...pretty much mostly for his base mode, stellar weaponry, and the fact that all the G1 cues are present.
