Feast to famine and back again?

For the intermediate to long range collector like myself and others here, it has occurred to me that we are in one of the best times for TF collectors with the myriad of releases from Hasbro, Takara and third party vendors. The continuation of the original classics line(etc.) via generations, the masterpiece releases of multiple figures over at least two lines(the original MP series as well as movie figures) and last but not least the people from FansProject, Perfect Effect and so on. Many of us are crying uncle from the wallet but we know we'll tick off some OT or find that extra cash somewhere to add those sweet chunks to our already shrinking shelf spaces.

Now to the meat of the post: Will we get this kind of throughput from the toy makers again at such a great level, in so far as choices, homages and just great figures all around? Or is this that high we get every few of years? I'm sure there will be some rare jewels in the TF3 line, but once that rush passes about this time next year, then what? This will be a tough year to follow, or so I think. My past several years of collecting has not been this fun and fruitful since the classics and classics 2.0/universe lines hit the shelves and alternators before that.

So what are your thoughts? Want another serious run like this, especially from both sides of the Pacific? Or would you rather see some slow down/pacing so to give that wallet time to fatten up a little between waves/releases.

I'm of two minds, bring it, but damn my wallet is hurting!! :lol

I like the constant pace this is going now, because, well... lets say that after all on the necessities are done you only have about an extra $10, every week, and you decide to buy a deluxe Transformer every week, and so you buy it at enjoy it for the next week, after that, you a week you put the old one on the shelf and play with the newone for a week. I like this because you get to enjoy every Transformer you have for some period of time.

However if you get say a group or set of Transformers, you would mostly enjoy one, maybe two of the bunch while you put the others away on your shelfs. But when your tired of 'playing' with the one or two, you first though won't be "Oh boy, now I can 'play' with the rest of the set," no. Your first though will be, "so when do I get me next Transformer?"

Yeah I think its gonna slow down a lot too after TF3. Hasbro will be able to milk it well after the movie is released on disc but after that TFs are gonna be an afterthought to whatever new movie/tv series happens to be a hit with the young male audience.

And with the lack of the movie appealing to millions, I think we might see even more things devoted to hardcore fans. Maybe.

Until the next TF movie reboot in about 4-6 years.

Breaker, I forgot about TF Prime on the Hub. It may have some contribution next year unless it tanks hard. Those might be the figures we get inundated with next year after the flick. I'm not too keen on what I have seen of those, they just seem kind of "Duplo", but that's me. Anyhow, not trying to get off on a bashing here. I like to think that since they are turning a tidy profit and they've went above and beyond that hopefully they will keep this up to some degree, after all, profit margins need to increase!

I agree with you TFboy, I go thru that on occasion. You can tell when I've bought several, there is usually a TF "party" around my computer of new ones.

With some many good Transformers coming out until Spring 2011, I think it's safe to say that this really is the last hurrah before the TF3 movie toys.

I dont think Prime is going to do much. Hasbro will pimp out it's toyline well after TF3 Im sure but I dont know if it'll hold the kiddies attention much longer then TF3 will once it's over. Not to mention that its on Discovery Kids/The Hub, a not-as-good/new cartoon station for kids that doesnt have the history/appeal of Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network.

Over in the UK if it isnt getting toys that Hasbro says we are not going to get Skystalker becoming a freakin shelfwarmer! Then its more like getting scraps from mastah's table.
