Thwarting a scalper

Recommended Posts

We all know there out there, and we all hate them. I personally have never had a confrontation with a scalper before, but I feel glad that in one way or another that I have thwarted a scalper. Here's the thing, as you all know I post alot in the PA sightings section on the boards. My main area for finding figures has been the Cedarbrook Wal Mart and Toys R Us, which is a great area because the distribution of figures is very good down there.

With the recent release of the Animated Ironhide and Rodimus Minor exclusives at Toys R Us stores, the stories of the scalpers getting to them have been popping up. So I usually go to the Cedarbrook Toys R Us on Fridays to see what's new. I always make sure to get there before they open as they usually restock the night before, so I went there this past Friday and found rodimus along with a bunch more Rodimus Minors, and Ironhides.

So I was happy to find him, I know that scalpers need to make money, but it felt good knowing that if I had enough money to buy another Rodimus Minor then that meant that I pissed off a scalper because I got to them before he did. And that just feels so damn good, don't you all agree?

sigh... another scalper thread

I'm putting this out there right now. The first instance of a fight in here and this thread goes on lockdown. I realize there's two mentalities to scalping. The fans hate it because it causes artificial shortages of figures so that one person can sell it at inflated prices. For others, scalpers are simply playing into the heart of Capitalism, which is supply and demand. With the economy the way it is, scalping will naturally be in the rise.

While this variance should be able to be discusses civilly, it eventually turns into a flame war and quite honestly I'm weary of defusing them. Therefore, be warned.

Yeah, there was a "I hate scalper" thread started last weekend, I think, and it was quickly closed like 2 days later due to one poster flaming another poster. I guess, good luck with this thread SuperSaiyanGoku. :D

I should appologize, I diddn't mean to make this a I hate scalpers thread. I posted this topic to say how good it feels to get to a figure that I and everybody else want before a scalper gets to it. Although from what I am hearing it seems like the scalpers are backing off cause it seems that more people are able to buy Rodimus now. I appologize again, and if this topic is going last please let's not flame each other, that the last thing I want to cause is a flame war. But if it does happen please by all means close this topic down.

Theres been flame wars? I thought it was unanimous that we all absolutely hate scalpers. They aren't fans, they're vultures.

These kinds of threads are never good. Cause sometimes what others mean are taken the wrong way.

Like how I have bought 2 Drifts and might buy a third. One is being displayed in Robot mode the other is still MISB. While if I do buy a third I will leave him in Vehicle mode. I really like the figure.

However someone could easily take it as I bought 2 extra to sell for more then what I paid and be called a Scapler.

Yup, the problem arises when someone shows up trying to defend the activity.

When I got Rodimus and posted my find, our member axalonark asked if I could get another for him. Unfortunately I wasn't able to because all I had left was money for food shopping. But if I did then I would have been willing to charge him $10.00 for it no problem. No sense in charging $13.00 for it

Yup, the problem arises when someone shows up trying to defend the activity.

BUT there is nothing to defend right?? BaCon you know it just as much as I do (EVEN THE SCALPERS) this "activity" is what Breaker calls vulture-esque.

And should be looked at as a form of "fraudulent markup" and HASTAK should come in and lay the smacketh downeth , cuz really in the end it is the collector and the kids and the parents that will suffer the most, and who wants to hear about the damn economy anyway??

The bad economy is fueling this "scalper frenzy" and the minute I see a HA BB going for $70 I am calling that person out and reporting the post, ON ANY BOARD!!

AP, there's a lot to defend. You're just sore because it gets in the way of your hobby and you aren't considering any other side of it, no matter how many times the other side is presented.
