Masterpiece of Masterpiece's

Recommended Posts

I have heard some say " MP-01/MP-04 is the best Masterpiece mold hands down " I myself agree, but to some collectors would suggest the Seeker molds, or all of the Dinobot fans on the site LOVE Grimmy and so on.

So I proclaim that you sound off and let the people decide, and with just YOUR opinion on what YOU think is (Or it could be your favorite, it doesn't matter) the best Masterpiece mold-TYPE/SPEAK FREELY ON THIS PLEASE.

Based on Articulation-

Based on Alternate mode-

Based on Robot mode-

If articulation is not all that great, and the bot and alt mode is, then that mold wins best 2/3......Right?

Like I said in the beginning of the post, I do vote that the MP-01 and MP-04 OP mold wins in my book, best alt mode, best bot mode and articulation is all over the place,

I have MP-05 and one of the Seeker molds-I have held Grimlock-so- I think that the "translation" from toon to real life bot in OP instance was the best, that is all I can say-really.

All MP have had to make some sacrifices. Though all the ones I own are quite fantastic, they're all far from flawless.

The Prime mold (black convoy) is awesome; huge, great gimmicks, and weighs as much as a baby. In robot mode, he's certainly one of my favorite display pieces. Articulation is really only average at best and the weight of all his die-cast makes posing even more challenging and risky. I'm also a bit fearful of paint chips in certain parts. The truck mode is nice, but everyone knows it's a bit off.

The starscream mold is also pretty impressive (I have skywarp). The jet mode is just plain sexy and I really enjoy the transformation, even if you fear breakage the first few times. I really like the robot mode, but the hip kibble kills any decent posing options and, along with his tiny feet, forces you to use his stand. The stickers included also don't hold on too well at all.

Megatron is probably my least favorite masterpiece figure. The gun mode is absurdly large, but very nice. Transformation takes days and unbelievably frightening. The robot mode is barely worth the work. While I like the upper body, his legs are just thin and flimsy. His hip joints look like they'll snap off if you breath on them. Also, his fusion cannon is ridiculously out of scale. Couldn't they have included a second smaller scope for robot mode? My final gripe is that my megatron's feet and the other metal bits have started rusting already. I don't live in a very humid place, so it shouldn't happen.

Grimlock is a great figure. A bit too light for me to enjoy calling it a masterpiece, but the size is good as long as he's not compared to prime. The t-rex mode is just pure enjoyment to me and the robot mode is almost as delightful. Articulation is understandably hindered by his bulk, but posing is hurt by a lack of ratchet joints in his hips and elbows. I really enjoy his aesthetics, but he feels very flimsy. It seems as if his chest barely locks in place and I think it may have something to do with the stupid tail wagging gimmick.

I wouldn't say any of these figures are "hands down the best," but they're all good figures. Prime does take my spot as top MP figure simply because his robot mode is just that good, but fails on the other two. Skywarp wins best alt mode, even if his landing gear aren't so well endowed. I'll give Grimlock best articulation for the hell of it and I'm impressed by his poseable feet (technically he could win because his alt mode has articulation too).

Based on Articulation- Ultra Magnus/Magnus Prime

Based on Alternate mode-Megatron

Based on Robot mode- Megatron

Based on Nostalgia- Grimlock

OF ALL- JP Skywarp.

Though my personal fave ever, for the ammount of work I put into it is MASTERPEICE SLIPSTREAM! :love :love :love :love

I come from the future to answer this question. We have ALL of the Transformers in Masterpiece form (at least the ones who needed the upgrade) and IMHO the BW MP Tripredacus is my favorite :tfevil

He came out in the year 3792 AD with 6 repaints to follow in the next 4 years :yay

But for all its grandness as the ultimate MP figure for some reason Takasbro didn't make it so he has all 3 modes. You can take the 3 animals and make Tripredacus but they don't form the 3 robots :shrug This is why I've traveled to this time period to see where it all fucked-up and they started making combiners that sucked !!! :fire

Will TRY to take photos of my other works and the finalised versions soon.

For me it's the MP1/2 mold as well too. Once I have the space and money, I'll definitely be getting MP4 for MISB sake.

Overall, I love every MP mold except the Seekers mold. But then again, Igear did a wonderful with its conehead seekers. Love those no hip kibbles!

The seekers look great in jet mode and capture a lot of the personality of there characters in Bot mode. However the hip kibble, limited leg articulation, lack of accessories, and poor choice with greenscream really knocked these figures down a few knotches for me. They barely achieved the absolute minimum for an MP with these figures.

Megatron was a shock considering the issues with having a gun mode. Megs looks the part in bot modes. The removal of the trigger penis was a great relief and his accessories are exactly what he need to round out this character and take on Prime. Unfortunately, the gun is too big and weight and balance issues negate any articulation this guy has.

Grimlock is a homerun, They nailed both modes. the use of sutle gimmicks like a snaping jaw, swinging head, light up fist, and swaping eyes only add to the figure instead clunking up the engineering. His accessories give us a few fun moments in TF history as well. I'm not over the top on scale so his only big negative isn't a problem for me.

Optimus Prime is a grand slam. Perfect looking Bot mode, Perfect looking truck mode. Perfect articulation. And his accessories are exactly what you would expect prime to have. Only negatives are the lack of Trailor for those who don't have MP04, and some weight issues do to the diecast.

Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime looks to be a winner, but it is too soon to tell for certain.

Overall the MPs are amazing figures but nothing compares to the first moment I laid eye on MP Prime's prototype. He is far and away the best MP

So how is Transformers 2 (ya know, the sequel in a series of 5 previous reboots) Is it any better then the original sequel? Heh, I bet everything is. Welcome to the past, stock up on future-vintage TFs while you can!

I still say it's MP Prime alllz the way to be followed reeeal closely by MP Grimlock. He just looks great! I can't wait to have one.
