Beast Wars Galvatron

Recommended Posts

So I've been looking for some solid information on this figure but have found little. How much of him is GPS inflicted plastic? From pictures it just looks like the dragon feet and the collar thing. The collar I'll probably take off if I get one, but the dragon feet seem troublesome. It wouldn't be the end of the world, I mean, I'm sure I could replace them with my own parts easily enough if they broke, but I'd like some people who have experience with this figure to post about the durability issues and the figure in general.

I've had the figure since it's released and believe me I've put it through the works.

Outside of some minor paint wear there is no problems with the plastic gold or otherwise.

The drill covers do pop on and off(some assembly required :P but there's no issue on mine of it being frail like the brownish gold of the other 90's Transformers.

I kid you not, I use to hold him by the drill in robot mode with the wings deployed and spin him around real fast bowling over the other robots.

If that didn't cause a GPS fracture, I don't know what would?

It's also important to remember that Takara figures suffered alot less from the issue then Hasbro's.

I suppose it also depends on the factory run. Like, my Magnaboss Silverbolt's still running strong, despite me testing the supposed Gold Plastic by trying to rip off his wings. Nary a stress mark or any amount of give.

yeah, it wasn't every gold and brown plastic that suffered. Just certain hues and blends.

I have Magnaboss too and outside of being clumbsy, there's nothing wrong with my Silverbolt.

The only 2 figures I've ever owned that suffered from GPS are Transmetal Megatron and G1 Thunderclash.

I'd also in all fairness have to note that I don't have alot of early 90's figures from when the issue was more rampant. Actualy I think I only have 3, so go figure.

When Beast Wars came along though, the biggest offenders(this is hearsay mind you) were Grimlock, Randy, and Transmetals Megatron.

You also really don't hear many reports of the issue after TM Megatron. It's still a good thing to be warry of though.

So aside from the collar kibble and the dragon feet, are there any other parts are made of that gold plastic, or any other kind of swirly, high metallic flake plastic?

the feet and the drill halves are gps, but the feet are solid feeling (on mine anyway)

the halves are a little frail on mine, but other then that no other parts are in gold. I like this figure and don't display it with the drill sides tho. The wings are awesome. He has a molded grimace on his face. great dragon mold Imo. IT'S GOT CHICKEN LEGS!!!

Too funny too hear about Randy. I have actually had 3 of this figure 2 of them actually broke apart. The third one Im leaving in his box in the hopes that it will save him. Another figure I had trouble with gold wise was the G2 Aerialbot Slingshot first his tail fin broke off and now his legs are cracking. As for Galvatron I have no noticed any problems with him so far.

GPS means Gold Plastic Syndrome.

A figure can have gold plastic, which suffers from GPS, but it can not have GPS for parts.

It's like saying, 'yes, he's cancer' as apose to 'yes, he has cancer'

Sorry, I'm not calling you out on that, but in the past couple months people have been refering to even new modern gold plastic as GPS. It's inacurate.

GPS 101...

In the very late 80's through the late 90's the plastic used on Transformers for certain golds, browns, and metalic swirls(that glittery crap) was batched with a very course metal flake. That metal flake would cause the plastic to become brittle and erode even if untouched.

-some figures would fall apart without even being touched let alone being taken out of the package.

By the late 90's the batching issues where mostly resolved with few if any instances being reported on figures after 2000

It's important to research the matter on figures from that time period. It's inacurate to say though that it's GPS without especialy without evidence of the crumbling plastic fatigue.

^ Exactly. It makes me a little ill when people cry foul on the slightly pearlescent goldish-brown plastic on Leader Star Scream: It's a misunderstanding of the problem and a needless overreaction to something that's probably not ever going to be an issue anymore except on decade or older releases.

Galvatron came in the mail today. Neat figure, though I think he photographs better than he really looks. My main gripe is that his legs are a little loosey-goosey, but I can fix that.

Sooo... Have you ever seen a grown transformer's penis?
