Breaker's Botcon post-game report!

Recommended Posts

Well I finished the 13+ hour drive from Botcon a satisfied man. Being my first Botcon I can honestly say that it was worth the horrifying drive. I thought I'd just recap some of the things that I'm personally excited about because it was a very exciting Con and also, I wish I were still there :P

PCCs have been a real drag for me. The only passable one were the Deconstructicons. But the Protectobots and Dinobots are neat. If anything I'll get the Dinobot for the sheer adorable factor and badass gestalt factor. I love the head on this guy.

Heavytread is flying low on everyone's radar but not on mine. This guy SCREEEAAMS Generations Brawl.

JAZZ! Probably the best thing announced! As Kilby described it, Imagine his G1 toy only with much improved articulation and at a $10 price point. Awesome. Plus he has speakers that can be transformed out in vehicle mode for hit and runs or fold over the shoulders for sonic assaults.

Scourge looks nice and Ill get him just to go with Cyclonus.

Thunderwing looked very nice but Ive never been particularly attached to the character, Im more excited for Skullgrin.

Im in that group of people who have been yelling about repaints, saying to give them SOMETHING, ANYTHING different at all to help us justify the purchase. Hasbro did it. There is no way around repaints but all new heads for almost all of them is definitely a great step. Making some weapons interchangeable and providing different weapons for some repaints helps also.

All new molds yet to be released will most likely have a repaint, and all of them new heads. The only exception is WFC Cliffjumper.

None of the already released molds get anything different aside from the deco with the only exception of ROTF Lockdown and Fallen, both of which sport new head sculpts (and in the Fallen's case, a new staff and I think hands).

One of my favorites at the show was Sunspot, a repaint of scout class ROTF Skystalker. I cant get enough of that toy as is but the bright yellow and white deco makes him so eye catching and bizarre that I have to have him. He looks like candy. Likewise, I actually LIKED the bright marshmallow Fallen but unfortunately for me, the designers said his deco would be toned down for the final release.

Perceptor! While hes not a microscope anymore, Ender pointed out yet another fanwank. He tfs into a half track SUV so that when he transformers, the treads are on the front of his legs like his G1 toy. And he has a sniper rifle!

Windcharger is definitely not a ROTF design. I will get at least one and repaint it into a much more faithful rendition of Hubcap.

The ROTF Scout Hubcap will get a redeco and be named Big Daddy, much to Kilby's happiness.

Even the redeco of the Ravage for the otherwise crappy 3 pack exclusive with BB and a red Rampage looked cool.

Seeing some of Animated live on is nice in Lugnut. He is a beast!

I am a little disappointed that we didnt see much of Prime, or anymore WFC toys. However they stated that Starscream is at the top of the list, so thats good.

And I just noticed that the report forgot to mention that there are PCC PROTECTOBOTS!

I had a great time hanging out with the Tformers and RFC guys as well. A lot of fun times there in a short amount of time. While we were there to work, I didnt really feel like I was working, it was weird. Is that what its like to do what you love? Because thats a first for me. All in all the whole trip was a blast and aside from the crappy drive, everything was great.

Now Im off to post in the Haul thread!

Oh and Scott McNeil is out of his damn mind for reals

Okidoki. I gotta ask, since no body has reported on it...

The Dinobots PCC, what critters are the torso and limbs made up of? :lol

With a name like Grimstone, I'm figuring the "Commander" will be a t-rex, at least. Was his transformation similar to any of the other Dinobot(s)/Dinosaur-ish figures(G1 Grimlock, Pretender Grimlock, Cl Grimlock, BW Dinobot, Energon Cruel/Doomlock...?) or something completely new?

There are NO Tyrannosaurs. We didnt report on it because it was taking too long to look up the names of the dinosaur species and the panel moved lightning fast. If you give me a moment Ill look them up for you right now.

Grimstone is a Styracosaurus

The rest of the limbs are:

Pachycephalosaurs

Ankylosaurus

Parasaurolophus

and the final dinosaur isnt even actually a dinosaur. Its a pre-saurian reptile that resembles a Dimetrodon.

If I remember right I think the Pachy and Dimetrodon form the arms, I THINK, I cant remember exactly.

Oh, wild. Interesting Hasbro is breaking away from the norm. :tfevil

I'm sold just on them including an Ankylosarus. I'll buy four sets and Ankylosarus him up. :lol (not really....well...maybe. Depends on if I can get it during a sale.) I love those guys.

Lol, For a minute there I forgot what PCC stood for and thought that we were talking about some kind of extra Politically Correct Transformers... :tflaugh

But seriously, a lot of the stuff you've listed sounds pretty interesting, at least to the point that I'd like to see it so I can THINK about buying it.

The only news you've brought back that I'm disappointed in is the fact that they don't have any more WFC stuff already lined up. Seeing them in motion in the game has really won me over on their designs, and given the announcement that TF:Prime Arcee is going to be a lame-O motorcycle, a WFC Arcee toy was going to be my last best hope of getting another decent toy of her (To complement my ANIMATED! one) within the next 2 or 3 years...

What's Hasbro got against the Femme-Bots, huh?

Yeah Hasbro was very clear that the PCCs are NOT updates of classic gestalts. While they used heritage names for the units like Combaticons, Aerialbots and Protectobots, they were careful not to call the gestalts themselves Bruticus, Superion or Defensor. They are simply viewed as an army with a commander and when they combine they form a super mode for the commander. Hasbro visualizes that the units are a part of a massive army with the commander at the helm. An army of Dinobots trumps all I think.

Sorry for your misfortune but at least Arcee is part of the main cast of Transformers again! Im sure the show is going to have more time for Arcee then the movie did with that being said.

Yeah, I think they'd trump all, too.

I just realized, someone could redo the Dinobots as the BWN Destrons, if they wanted (with an exception of the Parasaurolophus). :tfevil

they could just replace para with like another one of the other ones i guess

This is true... if she's main cast in "Prime" and is a well written and likable character, it's possible we could see something of a renaissance for her and finally have her getting the kind of toy treatments she deserves on a more regular basis. :schin
