Stolen ideas.

Recommended Posts

Does it seem to anyone else that whenever you have a great idea, someone else thinks of it too and makes a ton of $ off of it? Like my idea of a game where you use telekinetics to move a ball through a course? Well, meet Mindflex. Does this happen to anyone else, or just me? And if others have this happen to them too, then what idea was it? Heck, I made Drift, and I even Named him Drift! Same but he has a twin jet Draft. And because of copyright laws, I had their names to Drifter and Drafter, and change Drift's design completely!

The Transformers club Botcon Exclusives steals alot of their ideas. I know a guy who made a Huffer from armorhide a year before hanf. Of course once he posted pics 3 other members took the idea and finally that years Botcon figure had the same Huffer figure they created from Armorhide.

So, you mean to say, George Lucas retroactively ripped you off with the Force?

It's a sad truth of the world, but there are very few original ideas and no ideas are safe from other people using them.

But, take heart, because the world isn't quite so dreary and impossible as it seems once you understand two things:

1. Ideas are cheap and everyone has them. Having an idea "stolen" means nothing, you've lost nothing.

2. Execution and implementation are everything. Good execution and ANY implementation will get you farther than the best ideas never used.

So, let me put it this way: Have YOU have done anything with your idea for having a mind controlled ball course? If not, then it's no different from never having had the idea unless you're willing to give it to someone who can and will do something with it.

I was actually working on the design, so, yes.

Cool. So as long as you don't infringe on anyone's patents and your execution is up to par, it won't matter that someone else had the same idea and you might be able to sell it.

I constantly think of awesome stuff, tell people, have them say it's stupid, then watch them say it's awesome when there's a comercial for it a year or so later.

The worse part is when I say I came up with that idea, they never believe it even after I told them.

I gots someone readin ma mind...

There are 6.8 billion people in the world. Chances are you are not the only one who has thought of something. And yes sometimes people come up with ideas at the same time. Einstein was not the only person to come up with the theory of relativity he was actually the 2nd person noted for it but he was the first to actually do something with it. Now all the historey books say it was his idea even though it wasn't "just" his idea.

The thing is, if you have an idea you think is worth anything at all act on it. Right away don't put it off. Get the web addresses for it. Aply for a pattent, do research, post information, anything, everything! That will protect your idea incase someone else comes up with it.

Oh and the telekinetic powers moving a ball around.... I am pretty sure there was an atari game like that in the 80's.... but regardless don't be upset. do something!

I think the biggest case of rip-off was back in the RID days. Back when they made that small (Minibot? Forget the name) Scourge figure. Someone took it and repainted it as Optimus Prime. Then like 2 years later, Hasbro repaints it as Optimus Prime and sells it.

But that was hasbros property. They can do it all they want. An individual repainting it as OP is technically copywrite infringement itself.

Original ideas are different than already established ideas.

When I say stolen, I don't really mean a U.S. government satellite is closing in on my brainwaves. It was a metaphor.
