TF2 Easter Eggs

Not sure if it counts as an "egg" and I'm sure someone else has noticed it, but the other Seekers (not movie terminology Seekers, I mean Starscream's buddies), make a quick cameo as well. Right when Jetfire Prime flies towards the pyramid, there's a closeup of Starscream which then cuts to a panaway of a squad of F-22's near the pyramid as Prime soars in. There's 5 of them. The two in the back are whitish with what appears to be vague red bits (maybe tattoos like Starscream? not sure), and a greyish/slate blue one. I'm assuming they're supposed to be Ramjet and Dirge, but they quickly bank right and vanish. The other three though are clearly Starscream, and a black/purple one and a dark blue one. These three bank right and a split second later poor Thundercracker gets blown to bits.

That wasn't Starscream. The Cybertronian"tattoos" weren't on the plane. Those were actual US Airforce F-22s, not Starscream and his "brother" Decepticon jets.

You don't know that for sure. I could see them being a subtle nod the seekers we all know and love.

Actually, yes, I do. At least one of them is destroyed by flying debris from the Pyramid during their attack run on Megatron and The Fallen just before Prime makes his move. Starscream is marked with those Cybertronian glyphs, those planes were marked with USAF markings. There were also more F-22s than just the three, it was a full wing of four jets flying in a standard combat formation all with identical markings and coloration. Starscream was the only Decepticon jet in the movies themselves, and most certainly the only Decepticon with an F-22 alt mode in the movies. Those f-22s were indeed US Air Force F-22s on an attack vector to engage Megatron and The Fallen, not Decepticons.

Except you don't, since you fail to acknowledge that 1), they're not identically colored as one is Black with purple highlights and one is Blue, which is very obviously noticable*. Show me some evidence of an F-22 in those colors in service with any branch of the US Armed Services. And more importantly, 2), Optimus SHOOTS ONE OF THEM TO BITS. Even if you want to claim it was hit by debris, you still need to explain why Optimus Prime is shooting at a USAF or USN aircraft. And your point of them being marked as USAF aircraft is a moot one anyways, as Starscream wore those very brands prior to adding his tattoos.

These two facts that you convinently ignore lead me to conclude that it is FAR more likely that they are nods to Thundercracker (Who's a BLUE REPAINT of whatever Jet Starscream is) and Skywarp (who is a BLACK REPAINT of whatever Jet Starscream is) than anything else. How that's not the obvious conclusion to come to is beyond me.

By the Matrix, are you serious that those are Seekers? Seriously? Just because you see a bunch of planes next to each other you think they are Seekers. If that was the case then SS destroyed the Seekers in the first movie. That F-22 that blew up around the pyramid was because it hit the debris flying around. Did you see any bullets/shots going towards it? No. RIght before it blows up, you can hear a guy yell. Yeah, its there, listen for it. It wouldn't make sense for the Seekers to fly that close and through it. As for the colors, ever heard of lighting? If you want to prove to everyone that those are Seekers, then as the original poster, YOU should support your claim with a screen cap.

I think it was just a subtle nod to the seekers for the fans to see if any of us noticed. There is no definite proof that they are Seekers.....There is no definite proof that they aren't.

Yay, strawman argument is strawman. Where did you get the conclusion that a group of jets must be seekers? Again, how hard is it for you to see in colors? It's not that difficult to see one of them is black and one of them is blue. There is NO trick of lighting that will reproduce that.

And it did appear to me that Prime is firing due to the fire effects coming from him, but I lack superspeed vision to see bullets that you apparently possess. One would assume that a muzzle flash + plus something being blown up = being shot at though. However, even conceeding he hit a rock to give you the point, Prime is still popping out directly behind him as he explodes, giving the very likely impression he was in persuit. And no, I didn't hear anyone yell. But even if I did, why is it such a strech to conclude it's not a Decepticon yelling? Other Transformers in the same movie make noises when they're hurt. I also don't see why it's un-Decepticonlike to kill one of your lackies with friendly fire (or in this case, rocks) given they kill one earlier for parts for Megatron. As for it making sense, frankly, none of the movie does from a tactical perspective, as these warmachines from space are apparently insistant on close range combat despite all the military technology they possess. But going along with the internal "logic" of the movie as it is, the entire American/Autobot force is closing on their commander. Why does it make no sense for them to be flying close air support?

But why on earth would I be asking for a screenshot if I could do so myself? I'm not about to waste 20 bucks buying a copy of the DVD to make a point on the internet.

I know you people hate Bay and everything he raped about your childhood, and I know the movie is a muddled, illogical mess, but why is it so hard to fathom that those jets are rendered in the same colors as Thundercracker and Skywarp? No military on earth uses those colors on combat aircraft. Period. You can either state that the US has randomly painted two planes like that for no reason, or conclude the much more reasonble assumption that they're a nod to the G1 Seekers inserted by the animator of the scene.

Greatshot. None of them were black and purple, none of them were blue. They were all the same color scheme— two-tone grey; dark on top, lighter on the bottom. Also, Optimus didn't shoot at any of them either. They went in on an attack vector against Megatron and The Fallen, at the same time Optimus did, and one of them was destroyed by the debris orbiting the Pyramid. None were shot at by Optimus.

Watch the movie again. I have the sequence on my screen right now. Right after Optimus is repaired using Jetfire's parts and takes off towards the pyramid, it cuts to an establishing shot of an Air Force F-22. It is two-tone grey, dark on top, light on the bottom with a the US AirForce's "Star in a circle" emblem. It is a USAF F-22, not a Decepticon. It banks, showing the lighter underside and dark US Air Force emblem, and begins its run on the Great Pyramid. The shot then cuts to five F-22s flying across the screen in attack formation on a B-line for the Great Pyramid with the last two splitting off turning right. The next shot shows The Fallen levitating a massive amount of debris from the Pyramid. As three of the jets fly in, The middle one collides with one of the pieces of debris and explodes. There is no blaster fire, no plasma fire, no gun fire at all coming from behind them. In fact, only one shot is fired at any of them, and it comes from the top of the Great Pyramid. They were shot at by Megatron, not Optimus Prime. Megatron shoots at the one on the far left of the screen (or at Optimus, who is currently off screen) and misses. Soon after, the middle one collides with the debris and is destroyed. There is not gun fire being shot at it, much less from behind. After the jet explodes, Optimus flies into frame from the left, passing through the explosion, and he and the Fallen clash, causing them both to tumble over the edge, as Prime shoots and destroys the Sun Havester. Optimus had followed the jets in, but he wasn't shooting at any of them. Megatron did shoot at them. They were Air Force F-22s, not Decepticons. I just went through the sequence frame by frame. They are not Decepticons.

Secondly, Starscream never wore USAF Markings. He wore a bastardization of them replacing the star within the circle with the Decepticon emblem.

This is the emblem on the wings of the F-22s:

They were indeed USAF F-22 fighters, not Skywarp, Thundercracker, or any other Seekers.

Prime flew right through those debris and was hit by some of them and did not blow up. If that plane really was a Seeker, don't you think he would be able to take those hits as well? They have advanced shields which were stated in the first movie.

As for the voice, it was a human, you know why? There were no robotic filters attached to it.

Here are your so called Seekers which are all the same color.

screenshot02v.jpg

screenshot01p.jpg

Here they are again, but darker. You know why? The position of the sun, that is why. Put something under a light, now put it direct in front of the light. Darker yeah?

screenshot03v.jpg

Oh what is this? Megatron firing at the Seekers?

screenshot04tg.jpg

screenshot08.jpg

Oh wow!! Megs is even pointing at one of them too while Prime is fast approaching!

screenshot07n.jpg

That doesn't make sense. Why would Megatron be aiming at the Seekers, fellow Decepticons, when Prime is right there? Hmmm.... maybe because THEY ARE NOT SEEKERS.

As for Bay, this is his version. I don't care if things are not G1.

Well said Optics. Well said.

  • 3 weeks later...

Although there might have been colouration homages, those are definitely just F-22s and not Transformers. And I don't think there were colouration homages. Now, if we saw F-15s or a Sukhoi Su-37 jet, that could be a genuine reference, albeit not a cameo.

yup, i just checked it out and it does look like shockwave on the pipe that skids is holding on to.

i watched that scene and it does look like a droid, but it doesn't look like the correct coloring for R2.

I saw R2D2 in the scene where prime`s flying to the harvester its in the bottom right
