Transformers references/homages from media

Recommended Posts

Hello, just wanted to know what TV shows, movies, music, and other forms of media that paid homage or made references to Transformers.

I'll start just in case some people need to get the idea:

- An episode in "Family Guy" that can only be seen in the DVD that shows Optimus Prime.

- Not direct Transformers reference, but the concept: From a Simpsons' episode, Milhouse and Bart are duking it out in Comic Book Guy's shop. Bart takes out a robot from a shelf and transform it into an axe. Milhouse, not wanting to be overdone, takes another robot from a shelf and transforms it into..... a watering can.

That epasode was on adult swim too! Wish opon a Wienstiene

There's Homestar Runner as well, but that site prides itself on 80's cultural references, so I dunno if it counts.

I think TFs are still a bit too "under the radar"; I suspect this will change once the movie comes out.

There's often TF references in Archie comics...there's one where Archie's in a rowboat and you can see Seaspray in the back, and I remember one where there was a sign in the back that said "Cars, not Beasts!"...apparently the artist is a G1 purist :tfgrin

Here's also a link to a site with various TF pop culture refrences: http://www.angelfire.com/ego/zobovor/pop_culture.html

i remember watching an old episode of ninga turtles where they were mocking transformers as... transfarmers...farm machines that could be transformed into robots

edit:

wow...already covered on that site! good reference!

Back in the 1980's there was a Coke/Pepsi commercial in which a pair of soda machines transformed like Soundwave in robots, then fought. It was a cool commercial.

Saturday Night Live also had a mock commercial for the movie Philadelphia, in which Tom hanks's character turned into a G1 seeker.

There's a local band here in Memphis called Mrs Fletcher, kind of a punk/metal group. There song "kid in the 80's" starts out with both a soundbite from the show (Optimus saying Autobots roll out) as well as the first few lines in the song being the actual TF theme.

There was an older Sonic the Hedghog comic (which i uses to collect back in middle school) where Sonic runs by something, and a whole bunch of junk is being carried in the air current behind him. You can see the Autobot Matrix amongst the debris.

*checks link from above*

Oh... there it is.

there was a Matrix in Megas XLR, and Coop bashed a mounster that kinda looked like a Quint once

In the one The Simpsons comic book I have you can clearly see the matrix in a dump, though it's not entirely colour accurate
