I think the bigest problem most people have is the same thing that has been mentioned many many times on this site. There is a big difference between a good movie and an entertaining movie. They can be both or iether one respectively. A lot of the movies on the top 10 list are very entertaining movies but aren't very good. With respect to what someone mentioned earlier "Titanic" was a good movie but not very entertaining. I took 3 different dates to see it when it came out and all those girls loved it. I thought it was dule but had a great story line and was well made. Now honestly the question should not be weather a movie is just good ar just entertaining. What we should ask is what makes it either some aspects to both are:

 

A good movie:

 

well writen thought out story line, plot and arch.

actors that fit the parts given to them and appeare natural in those parts

character development

worth while

 

An entertaining movie:

 

fast paced

good music

eye candy

very little thought needed on the part of the audiance

(or whatever the preference's of the veiwer is)

 

 

TF:RotF fits nicely into the entertaining aspect but lacks sevearly in the good portion.

Actually I would say that the "Entertainment quotient" of a film is more of a personal preference, that differs from person to person. For instance you said that you did not find Titanic to be "Entertaining", but obviously the dates you took to it did!

 

And in my personal experience...

 

I think that "Evil Dead II" is terribly entertaining. Would everyone agree? Probably not. (a guy cuts off his own hand with chainsaw, and then the hand tries to kill him; that's just not for everyone).

 

I think that Ang Lee's "Hulk" is very entertaining. I know from experience that my opinion differs violently from most peoples on THAT one. (Guy said he oughta slam my head in a cabinet for liking it better than the "Ed Norton Hulk"; Really? You're gonna be THAT guy? Spaz!)

 

And while I know tons of people who loved both Matrix Sequels, frankly... they just didn't do it for me. So, ya know... what can ya do?

 

But ultimately I agree with you, Entertainment and Quality do NOT always go hand in hand, and sometimes we have to remind ourselves that just because WE enjoyed it, that doesn't make it a GOOD movie or just because we DIDN'T enjoy it that doesn't make it a BAD movie.

 

That said, I personally think that Titanic is neither entertaining nor good, but that's just me. :tfgrin

Personally I thought Titanic was ok it was a bit slow in the beginning but picked up a little towards the end. :shrug
