ROTF DLC Game Night

Recommended Posts

Well I just played my first matches with the new DLC and well........

:yay :yay :yay :yay :yay :yay :yay

This game has just tripled in awesomeness!

Soundwave can have both his land and air turrets out at the same time, his primary weapon kicks ass and doesn't take long to charge, he has laserbeak for his air turret and rumble for his ground turret, his alt mode is cool looking though it's weapon will take some getting used to, and best of all.....IT'S SOUNDWAVE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD WHAT MORE COULD YOU ASK FOR!

Also Jetfire has a pretty unique alt-mode weapon, he basically drops bombs onto the map and can kill ground units like Sideswipe and even LongHaul fairly quickly. Also Jetfire's alt-mode is wierd, basically he flies like a normal jet but cannot perform any aerial menuveuring to escape missles etc. So that's not all that good, especially with Jazz, G1 Starscream or even G1 Prime taking aim at him.

So far I've tested each character and so far it looks like Jazz and Sideswipe are my new Autobot mains, and Soundwave is the only decepticon I'll be using until the next DLC pack (if they make a second one). Also my favorite map is Courtyard just because it looks cool :tflaugh

All in all the pack is awesome, the characters are sweet and the maps are too, only problem I have is that the Hillside map has way to many nooks and cranys for enemies to hide behind.

I'll get it today after work when I get rotf

i would love to join in but i still have to reinstate my gold membership :redface

I'm sure someone here has a spare 48hr trial they can give up....

I think i have one at home cliffjumping. Let me see if I can find it tonight.

I thought the DLC was supposed to be out today? I see it mentioned in the GAME WITH FAME, but nothing.

It does come out today, I mispoke in my above post about Friday. Sorry for the confusion. I haven't gotten on yet but I'll look for it.

Well I asked that question Yesterday, so technically you were right. I just finished DLing it and I'm currently reinstalling the game to my HHD. It's become a habit with every game I play.

This morning I bought the dlc and when I get off I will get the game

Yep, I just got down playing for the past 3 or so hours. Me and Ender whooped some ass! The new characters just plain rock. And now because I am a completionist, here is an addition to my MP Guide:

G1 Optimus Prime: Look out here comes our favorite Prime! And he is just as deadly as his movie version. The rate of fire for both of his weapons is much faster to compensate for the lack of dual-wields. His special is also the same, just a different color. Use the same tactics when fighting as/against him as you do for Movie Prime.

Jetfire: Jetfire is a brute. His melee is strong and his weapons are powerful. He can kill you very quickly. To compensate this he has very, very slow footspeed. He's also big and clunky in alt mode and cannot fire missiles like the rest of the jets (fitting since SR-71's don't carry missiles). Instead, he drops a flurry of bombs in a line below him. Though this may seem awful at first, these bombs are powerful! So be sure to avoid them if your playing against Jetfire. When using him, fire off your secondary weapon which is like Grindor's only stronger. It takes a long time to refresh so switch to your primary before switching back, keeping constant fire on the enemy. His special is pretty bland and useless, you wont even know it's there. Fighting against Jetfire requires the ability to dodge his fire. Take him out when he's distracted or if your a jet, chase him down like a dog while he's in flight since he cant retaliate with his own missiles.

Sideswipe: He is fast and small, making him a difficult target to hit. Both of his weapons are quick and powerful. His secondary fires proximity mines that stick to anything they touch or explode on contact if the player scores a direct hit. You can coat them on the ground around your enemy and they'll probably step on them as they strafe. They also work well for the Control Point gametype. His special recharges insanely fast and fires both of his blades wherever the player aims them. You only have a moment to line up your target but again, it recharges very fast. Melee is also good with him. When fighting against Sideswipe be sure to keep a bead on him as he's easy to lose track of.

Jazz: The cool cat is back! And he is the second best character in the DLC. He is now the fastest and smallest character in the game, making him a blur. His turbo and special practically recharge instantly. His special actually DOUBLES his speed! With it activated, all your movements are extremely quick, keep that in mind when performing melee attacks. His weapons however do not receive an increased rate of fire. His primary weapon is rapid fire and fairly powerful, but his secondary weapon is both odd and a terror. Jazz will fire a horizontal energy disc that strangely teeters and dips along in it's path. But it locks on the moment you put your crosshairs on an enemy, and the rate of fire is insane for such a strong weapon. Jazz is the ultimate in land-to-air combat. When fighting against Jazz it's better to spot him before he spots you and to take him out in one go. If you let him escape you won't be able to catch him. Keep in mind he has low health/defense. Airborne adversaries can still take him out long range with locked missiles though but beware he doesn't turn his secondary weapon on you. Also keep in mind that although his special makes him extremely fast, it makes it easy for the player playing Jazz to overshoot things, especially melee attacks. Use that to your advantage. Jazz is an ideal speed demon for Capture The Shards mode.

Stealth Bumblebee: See Bumblebee. He's just a fresh coat of paint on an old product.

G1 Colors Ratchet: See Ratchet. He's just a repaint.

G1 Colors Sideswipe: See Sideswipe, he's exactly the same.

G1 Megatron: Plays exactly like Flight-Mode Megatron. The only exception is that this version of Megatron looks AWESOME!

G1 Starscream: The BEST new character in the DLC. His primary weapon is both rapid-fire and nostalgic. It's strong but it overheats quickly. He has the same powerful secondary as Movie Starscream. But what puts SS over the top is his special. G1 Megatron in gun mode pops out of his back, flips into the air, Starscream catches him and then fires of a one-hit kill after a short charge. The one hit killshot coupled with Starscream's quickness, missile barrages and his flight capabilities make him the ultimate enemy. When playing against Starscream, use the same tactics you would any jet. Just keep in mind the special. If you hear it charging up it's time to move!

Soundwave: He is probably the fastest airborne character, which is a plus. Also, Starscream is almost entirely silent (even his turbo boost) making him great for surprise attacks. Both of his weapons work well but the gravy here is his dual specials. In alt mode, activating his special will allow the Jammer AOP to hover over the battlefield. It jams the enemy's radar and does double duty as an airborne laser turret, shooting at anyone foolish enough to come to close. In robot mode, Soundwave summons another AOP, this one fixates itself to the ground and continually pounds it sending any unsuspecting enemy flying. Even better, both the AOPs can operate simultaneously and continuously until Soundwave either re-launches them to a new location or he is killed. The Control Point gametype was practically made for Soundwave. You can activate the ground pounder at an enemy occupied point to drive them away and/or shoot out the jammer over a point to keep the enemy suppressed.

G1 Sunstorm: Basically the same as Starscream except his secondary weapon is a flamethrower. His special automatically overheats all enemy weapons in the nearby vicinity. Use the same tactics as Starscream when fighting with/against him.

Campaign: Some new characters are available, but like before you can only select certain bots for certain missions. Aerialbot joins the roster on the Autobot side for some of these. It should be noted that so far I've only found one mission where you can play as Soundwave and G1 Megatron. To select some of the new characters, Prime for example, highlight Movie Prime and then opt to change his skin. This will allow you to switch between all iterations of Prime (except Gold). The same applies for Starscream, Ratchet, Bumblebee, etc. In the case of the new characters like Sideswipe, Aerialbot, Soundwave, Sunstorm and Jazz, they get their own little spot in the roster.

Awesomeness: The characters all look great, especially the G1ers. Starscream's voice has gotten a complete overhaul and actually sounds fantastic! They have even incorporated some new lines for these characters, which rule. Yes Sideswipe can climb buildings and if you hold forward long enough his legs will stop moving and he'll actually roll on his wheels! Optimus Prime has a cool energy axe and Megatron has an even cooler energy mace. Jetfire sadly though has no cane that I saw (but I did forget to try charged attacks). Also unfortunately, Sunstorm's voice is an exact copy of G1 Starscream's (at least what I heard). Soundwave's Jammer AOP looks FANTASTIC! It looks almost just like Laserbeak! The ground pounder however doesn't look anything like Rumble, pistons aside. They clearly put in a lot of work on this DLC and are definitely trying to appeal to old school fans, the many nods are great. Even when G1 Prime does a transforming jump, fire comes out of his sides just like in the 86 movie. Very cool. I think there was also a bit of a patch (as an update is required before play) and for the time I played I saw little to no lag. Multiplayer runs a lot smoother, the black screen that flashes just after you spawn at the beginning of a match as you gain control is gone. Even if your not the host. I only hope that we get more DLC!

I got all but 3 of the new achievements so far :yay

i would love to join in but i still have to reinstate my gold membership :redface

I'm sure someone here has a spare 48hr trial they can give up....

I think i have one at home cliffjumping. Let me see if I can find it tonight.

it's alright, i've already made plans for saturday night anyway plus i still need to buy ROTF, but thanks for the offer, i really appreciate it, i'm probably starting my live back up in late october, so it will all end well hopefully :thumb

I beat some dude up that was bumblebee I was g1 color sideswipe

This DLC is amazing, the 1st time i was G1 prime and heard the transforming noise i shouted out in joy :D

this just made the game even better then it already was. :yay

Ok I took Breakerwave's advice and tried out the new G1 Starscream and I gotta say, I absolutely love him now! Granted I need some practice aiming the special ability since out of the 5 shots I've fired only 2 hit, other than that his other weapons are awesome and he's definatley a highlight of the DLC.

Now here's the crown jewel of the DLC in my opinion, Jetfire! Basically he's kinda like the Autobot version of Grindor, he's big and bulky and can deal out massive damage. The primary weapon can take down big enemies fairly easily. His carpet bombing attack in his altmode is a beast, I was playing a match as Soundwave and the enemy came up behind my ally (Soundwave as well) and I, carpet bombed the building we were on, and took us both out like we were nothing.

Basically at the moment these are the characters that are now my "MAINZ"

~Autobots~

- Jazz (who doesn't love this guy!)

- Jetfire (GET OFFA MY LAWN!)

- G1 Optimus Prime

~Decepticons~

- G1 Starscream

- Soundwave

- Seeker
