Are 40 year-old TF fans scary?

Recommended Posts

i'm 33 (and i got into it DURING G1!!! wanna make something of it?!?) and i'm at the height of my transformers addiction! so i think it's safe to say by the time i'm 40 i'll be buried under them.  :eek  of course i could always make room by getting rid of those needless things such as my entertainment center, couches, chairs, tables, the refrigerator....whatever!  :tflaugh

:tftongue Ah, you're all the same people that were into Star Wars back then and now Starscream a lot about the new Star Wars movies. :tfgrin

Im 30, was a fan of SW when i was a kid and saw the first movie at age 3, back in 77.

However, I love the new movies. :thumb

1974 must have been a good year, for not producing complainers.

hehe

i have an on topic question:

whats the oldest transfan anyone has ever met? 50? 60? older? does anyone know someone who takes out thier dentures at night and sets them down next to G1 prime?

i was at a garage sale this weekend and there was an old man there (probably around 55+) who was buying a huge box of pokemon from a kid, there was also a TF on the table that i was checking out and the old guy was all like "hey, you gonna buy that?" (which of course i did, for $.75 sweet!). i think he was more of an e-bay resale junkie, but he knew what TF's were.

anyway, sorry about the tangent, just wondering though.

As a TF fan, I'm always eager to talk to other TF fans. However, if I see a 40 year-old TF fan, I think I'd be pretty scared especially if he or she has a beer belly like Energon Optimus Prime.

I have nothing against people collecting toys even after their childhood years are long gone. I have no problem with anyone who's stuck a kid as I am one myself. Anyway, when I'm 40, I'm still gonna be driving women nuts. I'll try to avoid the beer belly, reminds me of The Grinch.

What are your feelings towards 40-50-60 year olds still into Transformers and attending conventions full of mostly teens and adults (who grew up with G1)?

:tflaugh1

It doesn't bother me. What's the difference between a 40-year-old collecting TF's and something else like baseball cards or model trains?

Hmmm... what a surprise. When soemthing's crap, it ought to be designated as such.

And, yeah, I'm 34, and was 12 when Transformers hit the US for the first time.

Make a note of this; we're ALL fans of T O Y S, and making fun of someone's age and relation to one aspect of these T O Y S just makes you look even sillier than you otherwise do (because you're an adult who still collects T O Y S!).

Also G1 purists who badger, insult, harass and even hate everyone and everything that isn't G1.

Don't assume that older collectors are purists of any TF generation. You'd be surprised by how many are MUCH more openminded and educated they are about most TF lines.

Seems you're the one who made the wrong assumption. :tftongue

I meant that I find old TFans that act like that are scary. I'm not making a sweeping statement to all old G1 fans.

If you're 40, collecting only G1s, and couldn't care less about the new ones (nothing wrong with this), yet still have the time to insult TFans and toys from Beast Wars to Energon that you will never buy (now this is wrong), you are scary. Not to mention pathetic.

It doesn't matter to me how old or young a TF, or anything, fan is. I judge people based on their personality, and as well in this case, it would also include how much they actually knew about TF's, their collection, when they got into it, etc.

A 50-60 year old guy could have been say, into robot toys since he was a kid, and moved into TF's in the 80's as they were THE robot toys at the time...

Find out about people before you start to judge, is all I can say.

Oh my aching head.

We're arguing about this?!? Guys, lighten up. This is supposed to be a place where people can come and share their love of all things TF. By its very nature, places like TFans are going to attract a diverse group of people. Are we going to turn this into a pissing contest now? For goodness' sake. We'll all be old someday.

BTW I'm a 31-year-old old-skool G1 fan but I didn't come on board until 1985. Sue me. :tftongue

I'm a 30 year old with a beer belly and I collect transformers. I'll tell you in about 10 years if I am scarier and long like fat bastard.

I do think that it is odd.  Transformers belongs to me, those my age and those that have come after us.  The geeks who were teens in the early '80s and got into TF don't count as TransFans.

So, let me get this straight : The people who were a bit older than four but watched the G1 cartoon and got the first few years of the toys don't count as fans?

:tfhuh

Please explain. I don't follow your logic. To me, anyone who enjoys Transformers, regardless of age or series of preference is a Transfan.

And to stay on topic, the only time I'd find an older fan creepy is if he/she had nothing else in his/her life except Transformers. No spouse, no real career, no friends ... That would be creepy. But it would also be creepy in a 14 year-old.

YOU SUCK! :tfevil
