Transformer Value

Recommended Posts

To assess our little fetish's worth in dollars...what websites/resources does everyone use?

I use Toyfare, but some of their TF info is incomplete.

Why not Ebay??? I think it is accurate. Bodycount and DLP agree with me.

I only care about the toys not the value... however, Toyfare, while not wholly accurate is a good base

Auctions are no way to judge the overall average worth of something. I'm not just talking about Transformers, either.

Toyfare prices are WAY below some of the auctions, especially the big-ticket items. There's gotta be some reason... conventions, comic/hobby stores, etc.

There is no way to go with convention prices that is for sure being that they are too overpriced. If you go to ebay you will see what other collectors or hobbyists or even just plain buyers will pay for an item. The newer stuff is higher because they are in need by collectors and will pay anything to get it first. But everything a year older is in less demand and convienently priced by others.

Toyfare just sets a basic standard. There is no guarentee that you will find that toy for the price listed.

eBay is the most accurate judge of what something is worth (just average together a few auctions for the same item to get a rough value).

Toyfare and other price guides can claim whatever they want, but if something doesn't sell for their claimed price, then it obviously wasn't worth that much, right?

E-bay could mean anything as long as you have two desperate guys with bottomless pocketbooks at the right time.

For example, here's two recent loose Liokaisers.

While you could say that $300 is a reasonable average, I don't consider a $80 variance all that reliable.
