First Impressions

Recommended Posts

Bought about 100 dolalrs worth of toys, will start off slow and add more impressions later. As with the previous poster, will start with the scouts. WARNING: THERE IS A MOVIE SPOILER:

Ransack: As everyone is saying, this guy is great. The alt mode is wonderful and kooky. But for me, it is the bot mode that pushes this guy to greatness. Ransack is an old guy, and I love the skeletal look of him, from his bony arms to his skull head...he totally fits the persona they give him in the movie (and yes, according to the novel, he's in the film.

Dirt Boss: Another great bot, his little alt mode is just too much fun rolling around...need to make him a little crate with the decepticon logo on it for him to grab. Might have to do a repaint on the loader parts to get them looking a bit nicer, but otherwise a great fit to the COnstrucicons (I hope he is in the movie).

And real quick, a Deluxe review:

Sideswipe: The Concept Camaro Bee of the deluxes, in my opinion. Has a bit of the learning curve, getting him to transform into car mode without gaps, but once you get it, he is amazing. The best looking bot of the bunch.

I eneded up getting a bunch of these guys yesterday, but Im taking my time opening them to stretch out the fun. I started with the scouts, so here's my take...

Ransack: Pretty much everything that has been said so far is right on. Very unique alt-mode with almost no robo kibble. Robot mode is pretty sweet to, just dont like how narrow the waist/crotch part is, makes it hard to get the legs posed good, but I understand its a neccesity of the design. I really like the head, maybe its just me but I get a senile old man vibe from it.

Depthcharge: I thought I'd like this guy more than I do. Vehicle is neat, just really small for the type of ship it is. Don't like the robot mode though. The legs are just too weird and awkward. On mine the ball joints are really loose and the head pops off if I try to move it at all. Thinking Im going to end up returning him, maybe put it towards Sideswipe instead.

Dirt Boss: So far my absolute favorite. He's a lot of fun, and pretty complex for how small he is. Speaking of size, I was amazed by how small his vehicle mode turns out to be. Hes pretty compact with almost no visible robot parts. Arms are a little weird, but I can work with them. The only thing I dont like is the name. Why Dirt Boss? That seems more like a name for an off-road vehicle or ATV. Really like him though, I think he will be hanging out with the rest of the Constructicons.

*EDIT* My stupid dog got ahold of Dirt Boss and chewed him all to hell in less than the minute it took me to realize he had it :tfsad.

KILL THE DOG.

So...the dog transformed Dirt Boss into a hunk of plastic?

...

Stop! Stop pelting me!

*EDIT* My stupid dog got ahold of Dirt Boss and chewed him all to hell in less than the minute it took me to realize he had it :tfsad.

I believe that dog's new alt-mode is going to be a fur coat very soon :wtf

Anyway I told myself I wanted to get at least 1 Voyager figure from Wave 1, Demolisher is just FAIL in a box, Optimus and Megatron are nothing compared to their leader figures and I couldn't find the Fallen or Mixmaster anywhere, so by process of elimination here's:

Voyager Ironhide: This one was pretty....average, it has it's advantages over it's disadvantages just like any figure. I wish the truck itself was a bit more black than grey. Also in order to have a "movie accurate" Ironhide, you need to either buy another ROTF ironhide for the larger cannon or buy his weapon on Ebay, they do give you a second dinky looking cannon but it looks very....non-threatening or devastating. Considering the other Voyagers out at the moment I'd have to recommend this guy for anyone just wanting a Voyager, he's a nice figure with very few flaws.

Now just to ask, has anyone found Skids, Wheelie, Soundwave, Chromia, The Fallen or Mixmaster in stores? I heard some places are selling them but I haven't found any

The Fallen :

- Very cool "alien aesthetic" compared to all of the other alien robots we're already used to.

- Although the jet mode is better than 07 Leader Megs, it's still pretty meh. Landing gear seems pointless, as it sits very flat when laid down.

- Stands nice and tall though in bot mode, so as not to look too out of place with the leader sized bots.

- The feet open automatically, which seems neat at first but can be a hassle when setting up to pose.

- The arm articulation in bizzare and doesn't lend itself well to posing.

- Dark Green actually looks really cool, but I can't wait to see the Target exclusive "burning" paint job.

You can wait. It just has bright orange and red tacked on. No flame decals, no extra flame accessories, just...

Well it looks like he's going deer hunting with all that blaze orange.

I found Soundwave and The Fallen at Target, Toys R Us and Wal Mart. I got my soundwave and raced home to cancel my order on Toys R Us. Now I just need to find Skids, Mixmaster, megs and Chromia (of the ones that have been spotted...I have atleast 100 dollars more of toys I want...thank god for a nice budget, lots of birthday cash and tax returns.)

Thank you, I was exciting to hear about the target exclusive Fallen but after seeing it, it looks like crap.

For my reviews,

Deluxe Soundwave: His "triple changer" modes are crap, but I LOVE the figure, despite his small stature. SW is a personal favorite of mine. Although he doesn't really have hands I am amazed at the amount of poses I can get with him.

The Fallen: My voyager Fallen just shipped online, so I hope to get him sometime this week.

Dirt Boss: So far my absolute favorite. He's a lot of fun, and pretty complex for how small he is. Speaking of size, I was amazed by how small his vehicle mode turns out to be. KILL THE DOG.

Thought about it, but I still like him to much. Worked out pretty well though, my girlfriend went out and got me a replacement and also got me Soundwave and Sidewipe :yay

One would think that some of these individually sold Constructicons would have been designed better since they're not even combining. (I know someone has a thread attempting to joke at them combining with the ones they have (Demolishor/Mixmaster/Rampage). I have used the instructions twice on Demolishor and Rampage and I'm still not sure I have it down pat for Demolishor. Feel a little better about Rampage though.

My impressions of some of the other figures:

Leaders:

Prime=OMFG. He's just sheer awesomeness to the 10th degree.

Megatron- Wish he had a little articulation in his cannon arm. Would have made him a little better than a dinky arm on the left and a massive stick arm on the right.

Voyagers:

Starscream- Nice improvement over the first movie version. I'd like them to release a version w/o all the Cybertronian markings and just the plain tan.

Demolishor- Eh. Nothing that special. Got him using a coupon I had, so I paid less and didn't feel bad.

Deluxe:

Soundwave- Still kinda judging. I think there's potential there for more, just not quite feeling it yet though...but it's Soundwave.

Bumblebee- The only difference is his head/right arm/front end of the car. Same toy otherwise. Swapped out the arms from Premium Bumblebee and he looks good now.

Sideswipe- Love him. One of my faves. Just wish his feet were a little steadier and his chest wasn't loose.

Sideways- Just can't get past how much he looks like Barricade, just with a new alt mode and slightly altered robot mode. Still a decent figure though.

Scout:

Knock Out- Nothing short of most Scout class figures. Relatively simple transformation and Scout level posability.

Ransack- Same as above, though his articulation is a little less than Knock Out.

My question is, where are people finding figures like Mixmaster, The Fallen and stuff. I didn't see them. Hell, my TRU only had BB and SW for the Deluxes out and the rest that were on pegs were Robot Replicas, FABs and others. Aren't Skids, Chromia and Wheelie supposed to be available in the DLX range as well?

:yay=incredible :D=great :)=good :schin=decent :doh=best left on shelf :tfmad=damn you hasbro :poop=sh*t

Leader Prime: :yay

sideswipe: :)

demolishor: :schin

soundwave: :)

starscream: :D

rampage: :schin

sideways: :D
