Transformers Movie Soundwave...

Recommended Posts

Ok, so the last time I posted some of my TF designs here a few years back they got a pretty mixed response; they were largely in reaction to stuff I'd seen coming out of ILM for the first Transformers movie, which I eventually learnt to live with and enjoy but now hate with a passion again. Damned Michael Bay and his magic childhood-ruining powers...

Anyway, I had a flash of inspiration and designed this last night - I reckon it's better than that Godawful satellite thing, what about you? I'm the first to admit this isn't one of my best or neatest drawings, but it's the design that counts...

Honestly? It's a somewhat generic Soundwave redesign with no real hint of movie aesthetics. You're a good artist, but it's just not that interesting a piece. Sorry

Read the preamble :redface - that's the whole point: I've grown to hate the aesthetics (and script and acting and directing and colour pallette and DVD packaging and etc etc etc) of Bayformers, I wanted to do something 'old-school', but with enough moving parts to look movie-like; check out the jointing in the arms and the mechanisms inside the chest and torso, those are the most movie-inspired areas in that there's moving part overload - and to be honest, none of them serve useful function... :doh

I like the art and the concept. Like the upcoming Blaster Laptop, I can see this working into to something like the Classics line as a modenized Soundwave.

I figure a PSP would be a good half way between Delux and Voyager.

As for the movie line(which I like) crumple it up, poor coffee on it, maybe flick a few matches, then it may be closer to the astetic.

I do like the idea though.

Bizarrely, I don't actually mind the movie toys (with a few notable exceptions) - I think it's because they're simplified and therefore look like they work. Also, they aren't made out CGI; they're plastic and real and therefore better. Looking foward to the new Leader Prime toy. It's just the actual movie ones I can't stand.

This says it all (warning: harsh language!!)

And just because (warning: harsh language again!!)

Wow this could totally work for the device label. I'm really diggin it good job! :thumb

Funnily enough, I was thinking of doing some other designs; it was the legs that did it (which is a statement I never thought I'd make...) - that 'eureka' moment in making limbs work gave me all sorts of ideas for the cars, Optimus, Bumblebee, etc.

But I will say this: the designs I come up with are based on my own personal taste - like it says, 'imagined by me'. I'm not going to slavishly copy the movie aesthetic, because frankly I think it's rubbish. Give me G1 or give me death. Seriously, people - all that frothing over the design for Sideswipe - he's got wheels for feet!!?! MF'ing WHEELS?! What's he gonna do - roll the Decepticons to death?!

"Starscream look! It's that accursed Autobot parasite Sideswipe!!"

"Beware, 'almighty' Megatron - he might roll us to death!"

Jesus spare me... He may as well have a TFT monitor for a chest; then he can RickRoll the Decepticons to death - that might work out better.

[takes deep breath] OK, rant over. I'll post more designs as soon as I come up with them. Peace and love, everyone.
