Help with a few Classic customs

Recommended Posts

OK, so Ive decided that the first couple customs Im gonna attempt will be Jazz and Wheeljack based on the nice ones that were done by DLP, Sami(Wheeljack) and Rodimus VTS(Jazz) though mine wont be as cool because Im planning on simply repainting them. I think I will be using Silverstreak instead of Prowl as the basis for Jazz because of some of the QC issues that I noticed with Prowl werent present in Silverstreak. Plus there are no lights to remove! The putty applications and the other various tweaks to the car modes that you guys did were awesome but I think a bit out of the range of what I want to try to do for a first attempt.

I am wondering if there are any folks that are part of the active community that are doing head molds? I could just buy an Energon Downshift or a deluxe Big Daddy and decapitate one of them but I hate to do that. Im not sure where the mold came from for Rodimus' Jazz that someone made for him, Binaltech Jazz I was assuming. I recall reading that Rodimus bought the Jazz head for $10 from someone but I dont know if these other heads are available or not.

Should I even bother pursuing the thought of buying a recast head, or would it be just as cost efficient to buy the figures and behead them? Thanks

The head I used for my Wheeljack was modded from the Sunstreaker head, and my Jazz's head is from Wheeljack-s70. He only charges $10 per head. As for Sami's Wheeljack she used a Downshift/ Bigdaddy head like you were thinking of using.

Lol, talk about a Fast Reply.

I was editing my post and Rodimus already answered.=)

Guess I am gonna be spoiled now and expect responses to come within 30 seconds of the initial posting. Thanks for the info Rodimus!

Oh, on an aside, those gestalts that you 'bashed are cool ;p

I'm on most of the time when I'm off work. So it's no problem. I'm glad you liked my Combiners I just need to finish Computron, and Defensor, and I'll be all done with the Combiners.

Meh. I dont feel like paying $25 for a figure just to chop off his head. I may just do like you did Rodimus and mod Streakers head into Wheeljack.

Just cut off the top of his "ears", and put a thin piece of plastic over his lower face for the face plate. I use .010 styrene and you can get 8 sheets of it that are 8"x20" for about $10 at most hobby stores. Look for model train shops, and remote controlled car shops.

Thanks!

I already had an order pending shipment from BBTS, so I ordered a few more Sunstreakers from them since they have him and Prowl on clearance. I like the promise of this mold; its pretty versatile and seems to have lots of promise for repaints besides WJ.

I could just run to Walmart and pick them up but it didnt cost me anymore to add those two to my Pile of Loot, and with no shipping cost they are cheaper than Walmart, so I wont be contributing to the downfall of society as much. ;p

I may do Thundercracker and Skywarp repaints before I do Jazz and Wheeljack now that Ive thought about it. Those two are entirely repaints, and would probably be easier than Jazz and WJ. What do you think?

Thanks!

Versatile doesn't begin to describe the Lambo mold. I have 7 of them right now including Sideswipe, and Sunstreaker. The customs I've made from them so far are Punch/ Counterpunch, Wheeljack, Redalert, HELLRZR, and TGRTRX. 5 customs from this mold and I haven't barely scratched the surface. I mean let's see there's Runabout, Runamuck, G2 Sideswipe, and several others I can't think of the names of right now. I'm thinking of repainting the movie Sideswipe into Tracks if they don't make a Universe one before then.

Has anyone done a Classics take on Trailbreaker and Hoist? I've not seen those two yet, but I am sure someone has considered it.
