For me, it was a dream come true. No, not that TF returned to vehicle modes, but that this was the first TF series I had seen in Japanese that came to the US. For me, this was polled as "ok" merely because of the translation and editing differences. It would have been better if it wasn't edited for the US Market. I am certain that it would have done OK. Then again, the Gelshark song was much funnier in English!

Smokesniper or Gigant Bomb or something.

I think in RiD it was Smoke Jumper (the fighter) and DreadWing (the bomber).

you know I really wish Hasbro would make some repaints of the train guys for the Universe line. I know they say its too expensive to remake them but IMO they would rock like hell in the various Astrotrain colours

I loved the toys in this line and remember being super excited about Scourge because I always wanted a laser Prime but he was hard to get and pretty expensive at the time. I purchased all the show figures and still have them all which is pretty amazing for me considering how much my collection turns over. The trains were awesome but mine have gotten extremely loose...to the point that they are a challenge to even try to display.

The show...well...hhmmm...I have all the episodes but never have an urge to watch them. But, I would never even want the episodes of A/E/C.

RID is special to me because it got me back into TFs after many years. Also, I was able to watch it with my kid, who was 7 at the time. We'd rush home after school and hope that the VCR timer worked right so we could watch. As far as quality goes, the new molds were awesome, and the show was funny, and I really liked the animation. Much better than Armada and Energon, and arguably Cybertron as well.

I think the show was great. It reintroduced a lot of the old concepts from G1, while at the same time introducing a lot of genuinely interesting new ideas. The original molds from the toyline contain some of my favorite figures ever, while many of the repaints outshine their originals. Also Skybite was awesome.

I think the main reason that people dislike it is because it's fairly laden with many of the standard tropes of the Japanese kids show genre, which some people find annoying. :shrug

They can be annoying if the show in question takes itself to seriously. RiD was brilliant for the exact opposite; it didn't take itself seriously at all. It was cheap, shallow, animae fun, and was honest about being that.
