Overall, I'm really stoked about Classics Ironhide. His hands look cool too... BUT not very functional. I found that several sets of extra mech hands left over from other projects fit perfectly into his wrist-sockets; including Alt Prowl's, Alt Sideswipe & Sunstreaker's and the hands from my Gundam:Arch-Enemy RX-78 ( which came with 4 pairs of extras =) ).

 

Here are a few pics of his most appropriate, most fitting hands & weapons: His memorable Left 'Nozzle' hand (for spraying the various combinations of gases & liquids stored in forearm tanks). And an upgraded gatling gun with belt. (really liked the 'Infinite ammo' explanation offered in "Reign of Starscream' by sector7 agents: that TFs shed bullets/projectiles like we shed hair & nails)

Do those hands have to come off for transformation or do they fit in alt mode ?

Good question... (spent an hour trying to fit a pin through the wrist & make it work like the stock hands). Sooo... not yet.
