  1. I've got news for you: G1 Soundwave HAS NO SPEAKERS IN ALT MODE! The Diaclone version came with either headphones or an earbud (I forget which offhand); the Transformers version has neither. Also, does your car stereo stop working when your car starts moving? Locomotion tends to be mechanical; transmission is electronic. The two systems are functionally independent, and neither would affect the other's performance. Your argument only works if you expect a trained communications expert to be unable to walk and use a cell phone at the same time. Besides, when have any of us suggested tha
  2. In other words, function follows form. He's a communications expert because he was built with the ability to record information in a way that could be accessed by others. However, he can only do that when he changes form into a small, insignificant piece of obsolescent electronic hardware, and without that transformation he's as useless as a paraglider in a cave. In his purest form he's so limited that he can't even perform his job without taking on a non-self-mobile form with no defensive or offensive capabilities other than being so small as to not merit notice. Probably better off he's not
  3. Let me ask you this, How would Soundwave display or play back those communucations? It is all well and good to be able to analize them, but if Megatron can't get them, what good is it? Perhaps he could project them through his headlights, or TRANSMIT THEM DIRECTLY TO MEGATRON rather than displaying them on the wall for the convenience of viewers at home? Sure I can, but that isn't the case. If it were, I would be cursing and screaming about the entire movie and how it "bastardizes" the Transformers, when for the most part I am very pleased with the results. The few issues I do hace with
  4. Well, let me put it to you this way. IF his alt mode wasn't designed to play back audio recordings, do you think he would even have those functions to begin with? NO! he wouldn't have thoise functions. Therefore, whether or not he transformed to play back those recordings, having that type of alt mode allows him to do so. Soundwave's very design is geared towards audio/visual communications and recording. His alternate mode—disguised as a tape deck—is designed for that purpose and is what gives him that ability. Updating him to a more modern design still means that he needs to be a por
  5. What's wrong with Soundwave only doing external surveillance? He can send his minions into the building and sit in the parking lot outside (or in orbit, for that matter), then collect the data from them and relay it through whatever communications array his alt mode has to Megatron. Why would he need to be inside the building at all? EDIT: DM, you said it better than I did ^_^
  6. Thank you for asking this. I was beginning to wonder about something along those lines myself ^_^
  7. Megatron being a gun does not fundamentally change him, no. Him not being a weapon does. By weapon, I mena a gun, a tank, a bomber, anything designed with heavy firepower in mind. It isn't just Soundwave's persona that mattered. And one of the things that was inherant to Soundwave, at least as Hasbro, Don Murphy and a lot of fans on other sites and at the various discussions, Mass conversion was one of them. That was because it made his alternate mode possible. It is a fundamental, defining part of Soundwave. So how is mass-shifting sooooooooo f***ing important to Soundwave, yet not to Meg

  9. I have always been into science fiction, fanstasy, mythology, comic books, movies books, and the like. I'm an artist. I've always been into all of that as well, and I'm a librarian. The hobbies don't determine the profession (I can think of any number of artists who enjoyed women and booze); both come from one's choices in life. I like woment too, I was just never very good with them when I was a teenager. Biiz didn't really interest me though. I would have preferred he be a Bug as well, but apparently VW didn't cooperate. His movie mode is still close enough and doesn't fundame
  10. No, the "world" isn't against me. just you guys. There is a big difference there. And being outnumbered doesn't make me wrong either. Transformers lore already has a plausible explaination for mass conversion. Your explaination C really isn't that practical and weakens the bot too much. The pseudoscientific explaination found in TF: More than Meets the Ey #8 works better, even if it would really be physically impossible. And how many of the moviegoing public have actually read TF:MTMTE #8, or even heard of it? Probably very few, most of them undoubtedly posting on this board. So whatever e

  12. Well, I was almost 15 when the second season started, and the animation and story telling didn't kill my suspension of disbelief one bit. As for its popularity, I am also referring to the longevity of the transformers. The very reason why the Transformers is still so popular over twenty years after it was intorduced is because of the rich stories of the G1 era. Not just the cartoon, but comics as well. The vastness and depth of Transformers lore embodied in the G1 cartoons and comics. They weren't simply 30 minute commercials. they were good entertainment. As for Mass shifting. It wasn't a
  13. How is it more complicated? Would changing such a minor part of a cheap cartoon designed to sell toys twenty years ago cause you to change your mind about the detail were it used in the film? Mass conversion wasn't a minor part of Soundwave. It was a major part of who he was as a character. Without it, he would not have been the same character we know. He woudl be very different. If he was this tiny, 2' tall pipsqueek of a robot, he would be a minion, an nobody, a tool, not a senior member of Megatron's inner circle. His Mass conversion capability was a defining feature of the character. i

  15. By that do you mean if he had been a giant tape deck, or a tiny robot? Eithe way, I think i wopuld have had more of a problem with him back then if he didn't mass convert. a tiny robot is pretty useless, and a giant tape deck would have stuck out like a sore thumb. Secondly, I honestly don't think we would have even had a "Soundwave" if he didn't transform into what he did. His alt mode is what gave him his name. Either way is fine, or if he turned into a flying armadillo. The question still stands: if Soundwave didn't change size in the cartoon, would you still insist on him changing size
