Universe Jazz - WIP (updated 7/26/08)

Recommended Posts

Long time, no custom........so once I got my extra Universe Prowl in the mail yesterday and once I saw how it transformed and looked, I decided to try the beats of the streets........JAZZ!

Keep in mind, this is a WIP, so what you see is about half done. I modded the front fender last night (cut it off just above the front wheels and glued it onto the chest/front of the car), removed the Prowl head, and slapped the Jazz head on it (used a bit of super glue to allow the head to fit better, while still being able to turn). I'm working on the paint still and after that, some labels (I'm hoping to mod the Generation 1 labels I have from my reissue Jazz to work on this in the next day or two). I'm not worried about fixing the neck or making it shorter (it doesn't look that bad to me and it's not worth the trouble). I also gotta thank my bud, WheelJack at Sector70 for supplying me with the Jazz head for this (he casted it from the Botcon '08 Jazz head--thanks again bro!)

Enjoy and keep an eye out for the final version (hopefully in the next few days or so).

looks nice, will probably look so much better with the detail coming to him.

that looks damn good. i have that head as well, wouldn't fit on movie jazz. is jazz's black stipes painted on? just want to know if a bath in alcohol would clean it off.

Thanks, man. I wasn't sure what size the head actually was, but I wanted it originally for movie Jazz, but once I got it and saw how "off" it looked, I waited for the right project to roll around. Once Universe Prowl was in-hand, I instantly saw Jazz. If you're asking about the black stripes on the original Prowl mold, then I'm sure some alcohol or something will help take it off. I took the cheap route for the moment--I plant to base coat those parts with a light gray, then hit it with white (I'm doing this all with a brush--don't have an airbrush). I'm about to post some more WIP after I type this, so check those out as well.

Here are some more WIP pics on Jazz. I've removed the legs and swapped them at the hip to allow his lower legs (between the knee and ankle) to look more "G1". I also added the small styrene strips to the front of the car/chest. I painted some of the inside of his lower legs black to be more like the original G1 Jazz. Up next, I'll finish filling in the roof (where I removed the siren from Prowl), finish up painting, and add the labels (if these look ok--if not, I'll paint 'em myself). I also removed the unused shoulder launcher and painted the other, so that it can be flipped out or hidden. Hope you enjoy the few small tweaks:

Awesome! That head and legswitch really helps define him. Cant wait to see your Jazz in full dress (decals & paint). Any plans for the legs?

Are there any more copies/casts of that head for sale/trade? You've started something here.... Great work (keep posting!)

It's funny that when the (obviously Porche-inspired) 350z was released, it looked more approprite for Jazz than the Z-Triplets...

that's incredible! I bet he'll look killer with the reprolabels. :thumb

one question, though...how would one go about getting a jazz head like that?

Thanks, man! I'm still working a bit on this (on and off, along with a few other projects and in between work and personal stuff). I'm thinking of doing something that either removes and snaps into place (but I'd prefer to do something that will actually transform--but I've run out of ideas on how to do it since the legs reach too low in car mode--almost as low as the actual tires when it sits in alternate mode).

As for the head, I picked it up in a trade with a fellow admin of mine over at Sector70, WheelJack (he's around here as well, from time to time). I'm not sure if he had anymore or anything. Best bet is to hit him up and ask him.

Thanks bro! I have a feeling he'll look great with the reprolabels (here's hoping anyway). lol

The head, check the above response, my friend. Got it from a buddy through trade and you'd have to hit him up to see if he has any. If I had any clue (or the materials), I'd do some for those interested, but I'm clueless about that stuff. So I stick to the guys that do it and understand it all.
