Rerelease of Binaltech Optimus Prime SRT10 BT-22

Recommended Posts

this was reported a fair bit back along with Arcee word is they are die cast and colour wise we cant call it yet since the images are of a clearly faked digital repaint of decepticharge and what looks like a regular kiss play convoy

also there was word that they are both smaller (i take that size rumor with a grain of salt myself)

Well that is a small update anyway, or is that the same listing that was reported originally?

I thought this might interest some people. I haven't seen any in for it yet. Release date July 17th. I assume they are trying to make up for the bizarre Kiss-Play series. Hopefully Mirage will get released again.

I'm not sure we'll see a die-cast BT Mirage as I'm not sure they ever made the molds to do him in die-cast. We can get a BT Convoy because he was within weeks of being released as a die-cast BT when Takara canned the line.

I saw on another website that the box size is being reported as 10x10x20cm, which is the same size as the previous BT box. Takara has apparanly also said something about these BTs being "limited edition" (although it's still unclear if this means they're just releasing a few old molds, or the numbers of each release are lower). I get the feeling that the limited edition tidbit has caused some mistranslation/confusion giving us "smaller."

Overall, from the information that's out there, I'm leaning towards the opinion that this isn't a grand restart of the BT line, but Takara just re-releasing existing molds with new paintjobs - something we know they like to do, and something that's been very common with BT/Alts anyway.

A japanese Hobby mag said that TakaraTOMY is "downsizing" these, "so they will be in a more collectible scale" are the quotes used from it. So YAH its unfortunatly true they will most likely coming out smaller.

maybe they are talking about the production numbers rather then the physical size

Isn't this a toy discussion?

maybe they are talking about the production numbers rather then the physical size

that was my thought too...

And mine.

I don't think you can just "downsize" the existing molds as they're designed to be 1:24; they'd likley have to be simplified somewhat; for operational considerations as well as the possibility that some parts could experience stress failures since the tolerances for the various materials were originally engineered for a larger scale (for instance, THS-01 isn't just a 100% downsized version of Leader-class Galaxy Convoy). Therefore, there would be addtional cost that would be incurred by essentially having to create new molds - and if they have incur the cost to create new molds, it seems like it would be more profitable to make NEW molds, and not do simple repaints of molds that already exist. Plus, that it doesn't even look like they're bothering to remold the heads should speak volumes regarding the possiblity that they're remolding the entire toy to a smaller scale.

I'm just hoping that Arcee won't be just a Decepticharge repaint. The body STILL looks like a male bot in a pink bodysuit.
