So, I've been trying to figure something out with this guy, basically he's been sitting in flat black with a bit of drybrushing. I wanted him to appear like a huge old steampunky mech. So I intend a bit more detail and color, but I'd appreciate any suggestions on making it pop. The cannons are just on with magnets, so I can still use the saw/scoop bit. I intend to add some browns, tans and some muted orange.

Thanks for looking.

That's really :awsum

I would suggest applying an "homage" scheme to him in the tan/brown colors. For instance, map out where the G1 Prime red/blue would go on him, but then sub brown for red and tan for blue...or whatever.

A little color, however you apply it, is gonna make this a solid figure. Kudos.

I'd say that if you want to make him steampunk, go all the way and get a bunch of pipes going all over him. Styrene tubes would be perfect, and you can even get little angle fittings for them so they'd look perfect.

Hearts Of Steel Fallen, maybe?

Ooh...I would leave it just like that. Maybe add some small, small remnants of red and blue to the appropriate places to give the appearance of worn-off and faded paint, giving way to the harsh surfaces of a mine over time... But that was just my sudden thought. I wouldn't wander far from the colors you already have on it.

ok, i am in love with this, I vote 'HELL PRIME" or the HoS fallen idea. I have always had an idea to do a prime in a 'berserk' mode.

If you like the idea use some dark red/brown and get a seringe(they actually sell them in stores, just not with metal needles) anywa take some of it and from about 2-3 feet away sapray it toward him, it wil give him a 'blood spatter look' being that bots have no blood I call it 'lubricant spatter' anyway using some glow int the dark fabric paint(yellow/green) would also give it the look of a toxic/ energon bloodbath.

further more. use the servo-method of making flames and smoke plumes, you could give this a dark and post apocalyptic look. at least thats my 2 cents

also you could buy some tubing from theaquarium section in the pet dept. it fits perfectly around the minicon ports, give it some glowing fluid and bingo, franken-prime. i did a 10 second mock-up on paint, haha.

I'd consider filling some of the greebly "vent" details on his chest/torso with bright orange and yellow paint, then drybrushing black or grey over it again, so it looks like a fire burning behind a grate.

Thanks for the comments. Great ideas everyone. I think the way to go is the muted colors on specific parts while keeping the bronze-black for detail. Also, I think I'm going to do something different with the cannons, I'm not crazy about swapping parts anymore. Hell Prime!
