I am curious about your affection for Wheelie, however. Whence comes it?

I couldn't care less for that silly attempt of a toy. I just find funny that practically all the fandom hates a G1 character.

I think there's a bandwagon effect. IMO you have to have actually suffered through Season 3 of G1 as it was originally airing in 1986 to understand the depth of the hatred some people have for Wheelie.

 

Which I have.

 

Transfans in 1986 had lots of radical changes to deal with. Some good, some bad. IMO Galvatron, Cyclonus and Scourge were the baddest dudes around. However, the fact is that most, if not all of the '86 Autobots (depending on who you talk to) just plain sucked. All of them (except for Rodimus Prime, in the two episodes in which he was allowed to show any depth) were boring one-note characters, many of whom had wacky (read: "annoying") personality quirks.

 

And the wackiest of the wacky was little Wheelie. The powers that be rather unwisely decided that Wheelie and Daniel would be the next Bumblebee and Spike -- the only problem with that being that Bumblebee was actually cool, and Spike was a teenager, not a kid.

 

To me (and perhaps to others) Wheelie became the symbol of all that went wrong with the Transformers, which as we all know ended after one post-TF:TM season in 1987.

 

So, I ask you, do you think that's "funny"? Huh? DO YOU??!?!?!? AAAARRRGGHHHH!!!!!

Yep, I still think is funny cause I also watched season 3 and suffered the same punishment.

 

And as bad G1 wheelie was, the japanese series wheelie was even worse, far worse annoying, if such a thing is possible.

I could only imagine. Wheelie as interpreted by a bunch of artists with a penchant for pratfalls and googly-eyes... oy.

i have seen the 4 soldiers from the sky and it annoyed me tremendosly with the poor dubbing and the storyline that made no sense, wheelie and daniel were incredably annoying in that! i just wish trypticon stood on them

I like Wheelie alot. He's cute, in a funny way. I hope he is like a kid and talks in verse like he used to if he comes back.

What I find really said is that his character description on his techspecs and MTMTE from DW all show a potential for an interesting character (him being abandoned, forced to fend for himself in a hostile environment, a loner survivalist).

 

Too bad Marvel/Sunrise gave us HIM
