New TF fans

Recommended Posts

This is for the fans out there that didn't grow up with and/or become fans because of G1 Transformers.

I want to know how many of you have become fans without seeing the generation 1 cartoons or owning the toys?

How'd you start out? Was it Beast wars or one of the other shows after G1? Or did you not even see the shows but someone bought you one of the figures and you just had to have them all.

Since I grew up with G1 and I don't hang around kids it's hard to know just what would bring on later and new fans.

You must be young. Didn't they come out after 2000? I feel really old at 26.

For me it started long ago when I first saw G1 cartoons on Sky channel, a now no longer existing british cable channel.

even though I watched G1 and had those toys, it wasnt until BW that got me into the fandom bit by bit

I was around 4 when my brother (who is 13 years older then me) showed me the transformers movie on vhs. He then gave me Ultra Magnus (cab only), Astrotrain, and a gold Bumblebee. I played with them and loved the toys but I really didn't know much about them so I can't really say I was hooked. Beast wars came along, I loved the show and tried to catch it when I could but it wasn't until beast machines that I was really hooked. I sought all the knowledge I could and made sure to catch every episode.

the gold bumble bee is G2 Bumblebee

Here's my story!

I've always loved TransFormers for as long as I can remember. I watched the Generation 2 show when I was too young to remember any of it. My parents bought me a bunch of Gen 2 toys, and I got a bunch of Gen 1 toys from a friend of the family who is a few years older than me. I was always a fan and I thought they were awesome.

Then as I grew up and TF wasn't on anymore I just kinda left it alone, an awesome toy line and TV show from my childhood, but I repeatedly rented the Gen 1 tapes from the store, which was awesome.

Then Beast Wars! I got into it late, around when Transmetals started, and I loved it. I got a ton of toys and I always watched the show. Quite awesome. Then I started growing up and the toys went away and I stopped catching new episodes. Soon I was totally lost in the complex stories of the final season. When Beast Machines started I jumped right into that, but I never got any toys save for the huge Cheetor toy (which is a terrible figure). After the first season ended I anxiously awaited any more, but they never came back! I figured they just never got re upped and ended on a cliffhanger, but apparently there was more that I just never knew about...don't know how that happened.

Around this time I was too old for TFs and too young to realize that it doesn't matter how old I am, they're awesome. So I missed out entirely on RID. Then when Armada started I thought it was pretty cool, even though I never watched the show or got any toys. I desperately wanted some toys though, because the whole idea of the mini-cons was incredibly awesome to me. Near the end of Armada, when they replayed the whole show on Toonami, I watched it. I fell right back in love with the TransFormers. I started getting toys again, and thus began my career as a TF collector.

In depth enough for ya?
