Classics CliffJumper repaint

Recommended Posts

Not so much of a re-paint as a remove-paint -- All of the silver detailing has been removed. Most of the silver came off quite easily, all except for the roof. Re-painting the roof was extremely difficult: color match; and roof plastic NOt wanting to hold the new paint.

After the paint apps where removed, I purchased a custom CJ head created by tfan Valkfan. Thanks V.!

nice work

I've got this mod ready to go, but since I moved a couple months ago I haven't had time to mess with him yet. How hard was it getting the crud off his roof, then repainting it?

I attempted to JUST remove the roof silver, but that was a mistake which also removed some of the red. Uunder the red roof paint is clear plastic -- That plastic did not BOND well with enamels. I tried spray paint first, which worked for sticking and consistent coat, but I could not find a color match. Thus retruned to enamels to mix my own...

I just painted over it on mine. Why mess with a perfectly good primer coat from the factory? I'm not finished with mine either yet so no pics as of right now.

If I had to do it all again, I cetainly would just paint over the factory coat!!!

That is why you should have used acrylics. They cure on any type of plastic. Enamels will only cure on certain types.
