correct, they did give WW prime a black wash in attempt to give him the battle/weathered look. However, it was pretty half-assed and the wash was supposed to go into crevices rather than make him look like he's covered in grease . So on mine, I went a head and painted over the half-assed , greasy looking areas and re applied a wash to the areas that were lacking it. The prototype's always look great but when it comes to the actual product, it tends to lack alot of the they had intended. On the other hand, Titanium Jetfire looks pretty cool. I think every now and then there are some battle-damage 'bots that are subtle but end up looking good. Energon Scorponok comes to mind.

 

Yeah, it did. I think it was a QA issue more than anything else. A buddy of mine pretty much took out all the paint and repainted it so it looks more comic accurate. He also added some details on WW Optimus Prime that wasn't applied on the stock figure.

I now have a spare Ti Megatron (hey, it was cheap) and I wanted to find this old thread to maybe try to replicate what I remember as a really great paint job. However the pics are missing and I can't find them at Photobucket directly. Any tips/pointers? :(

You should do the same for WW Optimus Prime. Both of them can use another coat of paint.

What are you talking about? Of all of the War Within Titaniums, WW Optimus is the most accurate in terms of transformation and paint job. The only thing off is the front wheel hubs. Everything else is perfectly accurate to the original.

I basically worked with a very light grey mixed in with a little silver, to give it a slight sparkle.. wanted to give it the g1 look ( anime ) and also black " calves"

I think you should strap a Titanium. Megs to an M-80 and take it from there.
