Takara and Kabaya Grand Convoy kit pics

Recommended Posts

Both are now out in Japan, but why buy them if you have grand convoy to begin with?

Kabaya DX Transffrormable Grand Convoy:

Actually, this is two kits. Kabay released three kits in total; Convoy, Drones (1-4) and Megatron.

Each box costs about 300 Yen and is fully painted and comes with some bubble gum.

Kabaya Convoy needs some assembly to change him from robot to alt mode and back. His rear truck section need to be removed and clicked onto his back and his arms removed from holes in the back to holes in his shoulders. apart from that, he's ready to rock!

Strengths: Lovely paint apps for a figure so "cheap" (the yellow digger has nice paint apps plus the Fire engine is RED instead of a cruddy orange), good sculpting details, almost "fully" transformable, good value (especially if you DONT have a Grand Convoy toy), quality drone transformations (the hands can be seen in "Grand" mode) and fairly posable.

Weaknesses: Convoy's head cannot turn, not as posable as Takara's, Cannot be used as part of the "Gold Convoy" campaign, the submarine and digger drones sometimes slip off as legs (but are great as arms), front wheels tend to pop-off in Grand mode if you move the legs in certain ways.

Takara Grand Convoy Model Kit:

This is about 7-800 Yen (so slightly more expensive than the Kabaya stuff). You get a model kit, instructions, a small comic, a promotional "gold Convoy" leaflet, stickers for the model and that's about it. This convoy is NOT the same as the one on the box or pics youve seen on the internet. if you want him to look like those, then you MUST paint him yourself. He's very similar, in that respect to a Gundam model kit (even the grey "joint" pieces are the same). The quality of the toy mold is very similar to those small "power rangers" model kits in Japan. Small, easy to fit togther pieces with a modest amount of detail. this model kit requires assembly and also manual assembly from bot to alt mode (extra "skis" for his feet in bot mode, removal of a fake "helmet" and manual insertion of either a regular or Grand head for either bot mode).

Strengths: Smaller than Kabaya Convoy, more posable, can be used to collect robo-points to get an exclusive "gold Convoy", free comic, can bebe painted or left as it is. A Cheap way to make "Custom" painted Convoys (nemesis, etc)?

Weaknesses: Brittle, some parts keep falling apart (like the small grey joints inside the shoulders), less actual transformation than Kabaya Convoy, Orange fire truck (Im sorry, I like red better), less paint applications (bad news for lazy devils like me), more expensive than Kabaya Convoy, less details on the drones (the hands are obscured).

all in all, ir really depends on what you want to do with them. If you want to paint and have a MODEL, then get Takara's, but if you want a cheap Convoy, buy Kabaya's.

When will Takara/Hasbro drop that "Evil" Convoy/Prime for a while?

This idea got over-used.

Only War-Machine Prime, Beast War Prime, Beast Machine Prime have no evil version.

Im not exactly if it Is evil. By the looksof the action, it could be taht it is a good version. Im not sure...

Grand Scourge has an autobot logo.

I believe he is freed of Sideways'/Unicron's control, so he's resuming his natural path.

Good stuff, frontpaged and credited :thumb

I'm a big fan of Gundam model kits so I was wondering, how would you rate the complexity of building/painting the Takara one?

Hi guys,

Just got the Takara version :tfgrin Here are some pics. The details are alot better than the Kabaya version IMO

you got any good pics of Grand Scourge like that? I need them badly for a kitbash project.

I wonder will there be Takara model kit for Wing Saber... (It is like marketing)
