"WSTF" Fortress Maximus

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

After recently seeing the Fort Max knockoff on these forums I decided to buy one from a seller on ebay. The "buy it now" price was $10.00, and the shipping was an additional $10. The seller was "chimungmung" from Hong Kong. I bought the "WSTF" Devastator and Superion sets from him before, and he has always been a reliable seller.

On Saturday, my Fort Max came in the mail. It came on a large sized cardboard backing with a blister bubble for the toy. Overall, Fort Max is about 7 inches in height.

First, the base mode:

This is where the figure shines, IMO. If any of you own the regular sized Fort Max, or even Brave Max like I do, than you would be happy to know that all of the little doors, bays, and ramps all open up like his large sized counterpart. One drawback is that in base mode, he is a little too small to be in scale with the other WSTF figures, but nonetheless this is a great mini version to own.

Next, the battle platform:

You know, I never really liked this mode in the regular sized versions... but yes, it is still here in the small one. The feet flip down, the guns raise and there you go. There is not much else to say about this mode.

Finally, the robot mode:

This mode is great. All of the articulation is there - arms, wrists, legs... obviously not as much as a cybertron figure has, but since this is supposed to be a knockoff of the G1 version I'd say it's not to bad. The colors are dead on to the original, and the stickers are exactly how they should be (minus a "fake" red autobot symbol on the chest that looks like a red decepticon one)

"Brute Mode"

Yes, it's here. Flip out the main guns in the torso, flip up the leg blasters and the forearm turrets and there you go. The only set of guns that are missing are the "flip out" fist blasters in the original.

Size comparison:

Quite large in bot mode, compared to the other WSTF Autobots and the KO Dinobots.

The bad:

Okay, my biggest beef with this figure is the headmaster mode. Yes, the main "Cerebros" head removes for transformation, and strangely enough there is a mini "Spike" head that acts as the connection point to Fort Max's body - which also removes... but there is no transformation for these guys. The head removes, and that's it. It's too bad, because an actual mini headmaster would have almost made this a perfect toy to own.

Overall, he is worth the $20 spent in my opinion. The plastic used is sturdy, unlike some of the cheap feel plastics that you sometimes find with knockoffs.

If anyone has any requests for pics, please let me know and I will see what I can do.

Thanks for reading! :clap

nice review! What's the plastic quality with this guy? is it like those knock off combiners in the Easter baskets or is it on par with the real deal? I can't tell from your photos.

Thanks!

The plastic quality isn't that bad, actually... compared to the WSTF superion and devastator it is much better (not as thin or brittle) but definitely not as good as the smallest dinobots.

That's cool

i'm still waiting on my 3 to get here.

glad to know they aren't crap.

wish i could view pics....:grr

Has anyone ever noticed this "other" transformation before?

The one on the bottom of the pic.... I never knew about that one. :redface

it just looks like a different city mode. From what I can tell the only difference between that and the regular city mode is the legs. The legs are unfolded in the new unofficial version

It's the same as the battle station mode, except the 'legs' are doing the splits instead.
