OMG! Upcoming Energon Downshift On Ebay!

Recommended Posts

my point is, if ya wanna call him Wheeljack. Call him wheeljack. WHo cares? no need to rip ppl apart.

Ok here's how this breaks down:

Calling E Downshift Wheeljack even through they aren't the same character

The average fan will most likely know that they aren't one and the same, but the main audience, kids won't and will be confused. Picture a kid watching the latest episode of Energon and E Downshift is called Wheeljack and is a completely separate character. With Armada still somewhat fresh, he's gonna wonder what happened to the Autobot turned Decepticon character he saw in Armada and why he's acting so different. THis throws continuity out of whack.

True Skyblast was a minicon in Armada but he also was never refered to by name and didn't recieve any amount of characterization Arm Wheeljack did, which is why its ok for his name to be reused on a completely separate character. Wheeljack did recieve ample characterization so reusing the name on a new character cannot (and should not) be done, no matter how good the homage. Continuity should be upheld

Did Hasbro make a mistake calling Arm Wheeljack Wheeljack? Well, no. THis isn't G1 so technically no they didn't by giving the name to a non homage mold. Was it maybe shortsighted and a better more fitting name could have been used? Yeah, thats a distinct possiblity, but its done now so there's no point in speculating that. Takara also did this on a smaller scale by calling Arm Sureshock (who for a minicon got good characterization and was featured) Arcee. Because of this, they had to call E Arcee Ariel instead.

If the name of the toy bothers you that much, then by all means call it what you will. I paid $10 for Universe Inferno and I have no problems calling him Red alert so if Downshift really doesn't sit well with you its your figure once you flop down $10 so if you don't like what the packaging calls him, then by all means call him something else. Its your figure :thumb

IF E Downshift IS Arm Wheeljack

Ok if this is true then two things:

1. They lost the copyright (although that's unlikely as the KB Spychanger used it)

2 They screwed up royally. Feel free to lynch them as you see fit

Good points. I just think Bodycount shouldn't be talking down to anyone. There is a way to make a point without being mean about it. :tfgrin
