The hardest bots to restore to their former glory

Recommended Posts

I'm not posting a poll or anything, but I was just curious about this. I have several G1 TFs that I'm in the process of restoring to completeness, including Pretender Vroom, the Pretender Monstercons, Omega Supreme, and Predaking. Finding the parts to restore them to full completeness has become a real task for me and it's really gotten me to take collecting seriously. Of all of those I just mentioned, I would say that Vroom has been the hardest thus far to restore. It's next to impossible to find all the parts to complete him.

So, what do you guys think are the hardest bots to restore to completeness?

Funny you've mentioned that. Here's my list:

G1 Countdown

Any of the G1 Autobot Mega Pretenders

G1 Roadbuster

G1 Whirl

G1 Overlord

G1 Black Zarak

G1 Victory Leo (still looking for the shoulder cannons!!!!)

For some reason, most Autobots are the hardest to restore.

Monstructor has a lot of parts floating on eBay and other forums - they're common, but just expensive, like Fortress Maximus parts.

Octane?

All that chrome seems pretty delicate.

IMO, the most difficult ones are the white ones. Once that plastic goes yellow, it's over.

What causes yellowing of white plastic? :tfhuh

age.... sunlight... cigarette smoke....

plastic is porous, it happens

I've heard that Gnaw is pretty hard to get complete...

Gnaw is a good one. It took me months to find one w/ the tail for a somewhat decent price.

As mentioned, G1 Roadbuster is definitely another good one. That guy comes w/ so many parts that it is hard to know if you even have them all. Plus, he is kind of an obscure figure, so there really aren't all that many auctions for him.

Along the same vein as Roadbuster, I think it is a little difficult to complete G1 Whirl. That one is another obscure one w/ a few parts that get misplaced. Occassionally you can find a complete listing, but they don't come up all that often.

Yeah, Gnaw's a pain. He's an awesome figure but impossible to find the tail. I need both tail and gun for him.

As far as a list, it's a long list of hard bots to complete.

Might be better to change this thread to what's the hardest parts pieces to find or get.

The headmaster juniors use to be really hard with those small head guns but now with the repro, we all got some breathing room.

Need more reprod cast. :tfevil

But that for those who aren't picky.

I agree about Gnaw and Octane, I adding Roadbuster and Whirl!!!

Pretenders Roadblock & Skyhammer—small parts and lots of Gold Plastic that suffers from GPS
