Shackwave to SHOCKwave...

Recommended Posts

I got one of the Radio Shack (or other store) gray Shockwave toys that sold during the same time as that year's Transformers line. Ran on Ebay for about $30 or so, and the electronics still worked. Nice deal.

Well, I've had it for a couple of years, and I finally decided to paint him up like Shockwave.

The purple is lighter than the original, but I think it's a nice shade. But I'm facing a dilemma. I bought the spray paint I'm using about a year ago. I'm running low, and I can't find any more of it. It was a Krylon spray paint, called "Home Decor." The shade was Plumb Royale Satin.

I thought I found a comperable shade of Krylon Int/Ext Plumb, but it's a half-shade darker. Plus it's gloss. And this other stuff really did have a nice glove-like fit over the surfaces I've painted with it.

Good news is, I'm thinking I have JUST enough of the old stuff to pull this off. The front half of the body and other leg are done, and I'm painting the backhalf of the body and speaker box as we speak. I should have just enough for the other side of the speaker box and any other little corners that don't get sprayed. I hope.

Anyway, I should have new pics soon.

Well it looks awesome so far. I see what you mean about the paint; that's very nice. Looks professional. :thumb

That does look really nice...I've never been a fan of the dark purple.

Nice very clean pain job, looks good so far.

I have Shackwave myself, and that does look like him. Hard to say for certain though.

Personally I actually sort of like the grey. But it will be cool to see how this turns out.

Yeah, I liked the gray too. But I've had him for a while, and I would kinda like to have the Cartoon version on hand at this point. (Plus, yeah, I think the original toy is too dark a purple)

Well, it looks like this'll be a success. I think I have just enough to finish the job--little corner sprays here and there. I should have pics in the next couple of days once I finish and reassemble him.
