OMG I found this on wikipedia, and its true

Recommended Posts

I was just crusing the wikipedia stuff I check on, and I happend to look up botcon, check the link, and scroll down about the exclusives, its the last entry, and I checked my comic and its true. That sucks, I had to pay 20 extra bucks when I should have paid less. Heres the link.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BotCon#Exclusive_toys

I just read it.

BOTCON 2006 EXCLUSIVE FIGURE CONTROVERSY In the Botcon 2006 program the page after the last comic panel contains a Q&A, one of the qustions was about convention souviniers. It listed Megatron and Waspinator for $80.00, and Laserbeak and Buzzsaw for $40.00. Many fans inquired about this issue and were told that it was a typo, however claiming this as a typo and not having the price at what was listed is an FTC (Federal Trade Comission) violation known as deceptive advertising, the toys were instead sold for $95.00 and $45.00 respectively. This made the convention 10,000 extra dollars, that the fans are owed. Whether this problem will be rectified has yet to be answered. The following quote is from The FTC website, a link can be found here.

The Federal Trade Commission Act allows the FTC to act in the interest of all consumers to prevent deceptive and unfair acts or practices. In interpreting Section 5 of the Act, the Commission has determined that a representation, omission or practice is deceptive if it is likely to:

mislead consumers and affect consumers' behavior or decisions about the product or service.

In addition, an act or practice is unfair if the injury it causes, or is likely to cause, is:

substantial not outweighed by other benefits and not reasonably avoidable.

I don't see this being an actual violation. The buyers would've been told the total when they paid. And I doubt a $20 difference in optional exclusives would've affected anyone's choice to attend the con.

That mark-up is about a 25% more than the advertised price on a product that you can't buy else where. :tdown

No matter how you slice it, that's pretty wrong in my opinion. :tdown

Oh no, TF cons messing up toy exclusives

That's certainly never happened before

The rule is that items cannot be charged at any price than the advertised or ring-up price. Which is why you shouldn't care if something rings up as the wrong price at a retail store. Its technically illegal for a store or company to change that price without putting out new advertising or a disclaimer.

I did the math, thats 10,000 extra dollars. I dont know if I believe that its a Typo. I mean how can you put 80, and then say it sells for 95. Thats just wrong, and I checked other posts out about when Target did the same thing, when they underpriced a figure, they have to by law sell at that price, and seeing as fans got that comic before they would purchase the figures then they should have paid the posted price. Those posters didnt even have a price, the ones at the show, and there was never an annoucement or a posting on the web as to the typo or prices, so legally every fan who bought one or both is owed 5 for 15 or for both 20 dollars. 20 buck jeez thats an alt.

But wasn't the typo just in a comic you had to buy the initial set of 5 to get? So, it's not like it was mass advertising meant to draw in unsuspecting customers.

Besides, weren't the prices advertised elsewhere fairly accurately before the con? Like on a website or something?

Yeah but before you could buy the set you have to get the boxed set, seeing as you had to be a Primus member to get it, at least at first. No the prices never were posted online, apparently Brian didnt want to give away the identities of the exclusives, which is stupid we all were right about Megatron and Waspinator and that was months ago. Besides they could post the prices without listing the characters. The only places that had the prices were the comic book and the order form, which they made people fill out.
