Help on taking apart joints?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I wondered if anyone had any tips for takin apart joints like the ones seen here:

That's both sides of the joint ( it's the knee on CD Hotshot/Exigeyser ).

Any help appreciated,

It's a pop-rivet joint, you'll have to use a drill if you've got one thin enough. The bottom one in the pic shows the "sealed" end, you need to sheer off the round bulbous bit as that is what's been bent outwards to seal the pin.

Unless you've got a small pop-rivet gun & pop-rivet's the exact size you'll have trouble joining it back up. Once you've removed them they can't be re-used.

Bring the piece into a hardware store to see if they have anything suitable to replace it before you've removed it. A watch-shop may be worth a try too.

(I know sod-all about KB'ing BTW, I used to fix air-vents & we used drills to remove pop-rivets.)

You may know sod all but your right about what it is and the easiet way to remove it. And unless you have some rivits of the same size to replace it you'll have to custom up something to go in there to hold it together when your done doing whatever it is you need to do to it.

To repair got to a sears hardware store and buy a hand rivet gun, and buy the "short" rivets (some tfs have Long) They are about 10 Usd for the gun and 2 usd for a box of 25 rivets.
