Is there a clear define difference between the targetmaster figures and regular figures? Besides the TM guns? Like is there anything special written on them or special holes to hole the TM? Can a collector mix and match figures and get away with it without getting caught?

yep yep, looking at pics: Hot Rods is found on the engine, Kups is on the back in the pickup bed, Blurrs is in front of the windshield, Scourge...i'm not sure, and cyclonus' is in the middle of the jet.

 

with this info that's all you need to look for, they are the only versions with these holes on them.

The other giveaway is that the holes in the fists are larger, to accommodate the TM weapons

The only parts that you cant mix and match are the hands, and --- Scourge's head, Cyclonus' back, Kup's back, Hot Rod's head, Blurr's chest AND shield (is a very different shade, not to mention the peg holes) plus keep in mind that there should be no first run parts on the TMs. This means, plastic feet and legs, purple ears, and stickered wings.

I'm pretty sure the copyright logo varies from 1986 to 1987...

copyright logos were the same. All had the enlarged fist holes for the targetmaster guns, Kup had the post-hole added to the truck bed, Cyclonus had the post-hole added to the top of the jet, Blurr had the post-hole added just forward of the windshield. Scourge was the most subtle, as really the only way to differentiate with a late model '86 Scourge is the fists. Hot Rod was the most changed, as he had indents added to his thighs for some recessed leg stickers that wouldn't get chewed up, the engine block was modified with a larger post-hole, and the chest sticker went from a sharp orange to a light-metallic orange background, which is found on the reissues.
